Need ranged help

Soon hitting 99 in all melee skills so going to start ranging all my slayer tasks.

 

Im not going to safespot so I need a gear that gives high def and good renged bonus.

 

So what is the best setup and still stay under a 30m budget.

amulet - amulet of ranging, 900k

ammunition - broad bolts and cannonballs

weapon - chaotic crossbow

shield - blessed spirit shield, 3.5m

gloves - barrows, 100k

boots - ranger boots, 18.1m

ring - archer (i), 1.5m

 

total cost: 22m

+217 ranged attack

+3 prayer

more worth it than armadyl armor, which is really the only other place you can improve.

Only 3 prayer, not very nice. I'd take a fury (over ranger's) or maybe even a stole to pray eagle eye more comfortably.

valid point. however you give up ranger boots and amulet of ranging, and you get snakeskin and fury. you give up 8 ranged bonus (which is up to 2.8% damage lost, more practically around 0.5-1% if you cannon) to save 1.8 prayer potions per hour (8.2k gp) if using rigour. i'd rather have the accuracy :thumbup:

Good point, if you can do one task on one inventory, of course. Ranging is slow :???:.

Curious, how did you derive to a 2.8% damage loss for 8 range bonus. Range worn items only increase accuracy and have no effect on your range level, and thus no effect on damage directly.

 

Also, the majority of your accuracy appears to come from your range level, as I can still hit bandos armor (200+ range def) in "ranger tank" gear, which is usually around 110-140ish range bonus. I don't notice much of a jump in accuracy from 120 to 190.

 

I feel like 2.8% DPS is very high for a small bonus that doesn't really appear to increase your accuracy all that much. Ya its 2.8% of ranged armor accuracy, but not 2.8% of your overall DPS, since ranged level is also included in DPS and is weighed more than armor?

 

I would argue to say that investing in getting extreme range potions, or overloads, would be more worth it (in terms of overall DPS) than the GP spent for ranger boots.

 

TO OP:

Really anything goes for slayer mobs, just keep your range bonus above 110 or so and you can pack on as much melee def as you want. Veracs Skirt is a decent alternative if you want additional melee defense. BSS is a good choice too.
