What melee gear?

I have been a range tank for most of the time I have played and have never payed attention to the melee side of the game. I've decided to train melee but I have no idea on what gear to get. My stats are in my signature and I have a budget around 20m.

Verac's Plateskirt

Dragon Defender

Dragon Boots

Helm of Neit

Abyssal Whip

Amulet of Fury

Barrows Gloves

Full Slayer Helmet

The following is what TIF Board Moderater Quyneax usually posts when discussing armor setups for slayer. This is completely his material.

 

The base slayer gear is as follows (alternatives in brackets):

 

[For all slayer monsters except those mentioned under other weapons] Chaotic rapier (whip)

 

Bandos body + legs (Verac's skirt with either fighter torso or proselyte top)

 

[Depending on prayer/accuracy needs] Fire cape/Soul Wars cape/Ardougne cloak 3

 

Barrows gloves (your best rfd gloves, at least rune)

 

Dragon boots (rune boots)

 

Amulet of fury (glory)

 

Dragon defender

 

Berserker ring (i)/ferocious ring if slaying in Kuradal's Dungeon (berserker ring, warrior ring)

 

[Most important] Full slayer helmet.

 

[For magic defence on waterfiends/aquanites] Karil's top and bottom (black dragonhide body and chaps, elite void skirt)

 

[Crush attacks to use on waterfiends] Chaotic maul (Saradomin sword, Zamorakian spear)

 

[stab attacks for higher-levelled dragons, when not using rapier] Zamorakian spear (Korasi's sword, leaf-bladed sword)

 

Task-specific items such as mirror shields, antifire shields/potions, elemental shields, rock hammers, crystal chimes

 

Cannon (optional, up to personal preference)

An alternative way to slay is Piety/Turmoil every task with proselyte. You spend an extra 10 prayer pots or so per task but it ends up being much faster. You still profit, just not as much.

with your defense your going to want a v skirt on almost everything.

That's not an alternative, that's assumed in my gear list. Also the use of the best potion you have (super/extreme, ovl is really quite expensive but of course better).
