Where to max out melees?

I decided to wait until having access to extremes, turmoil, and chaotic weaponry before maxing out my melees...

With that said, I was planning on training on Ape Atoll skeletons with proselyte, turmoil, extremes, and rapier. Though after reading about chaotic weapons degrading faster with more monsters attacking, that makes me wonder if my chaotic would degrade too fast for it to be worth it there.

So, a few questions...

Should the rapier be my weapon of choice for training 91-99 att/str/def? Would a different chaotic weapon get me better xp/hour? Would the whip be much more cost-efficient? Also, I noticed that the rapier can't train on controlled; I guess I'd train strength to 99 then attack then defense... hopefully using stab wouldn't be a big issue.

If I train at MM skeletons, how fast will a chaotic weapon degrade? I'm thinking it would be possible to line up the skeletons such that there aren't a swarm of them attacking me at once.

Are there any locations where I could train melee AFK as fast or faster than at MM skeletons? The zombie monkeys die too quickly when I use boosts above super potions and 10% strength prayers.

If you've completed The Void Stares Back then elite void might be better than prossy: even better melee boosts (With a deflector it might be even better) and still a decent prayer boost when coupled with a SW cape.

It's the best of the chaotics for training; none of the others will get you more exp per hour or degrade less. I'm not sure how fast it degrades exactly, but a using a rapier over a whip all depends on how much you value your time; annoying I know and many people's income aren't that consistent to put to a number, but if you're worried enough about the rapier costing a lot that's probably sign enough that you should use a whip.

Like I said, unsure exactly, but it's pretty fast in multi; it's worse when the npcs use range or mage though so not as bad as say dags in the ct.

None I'm aware of, pretty sure this is the fastest pure melee exp.

endless combat degrades chaotic weapons at 66k gp/hour in single combat?

if you can isolate yourself to 2 monkeys, then sure you could keep it at about 133k gp/hour?

remember a platypus can be used as a safespot. So that could force the monkeys to attack you 1 at a time, but im not sure it's worth not having a familiar to help with your xp rate.

definitely go with void, as it does stack with salves.

you might also want to consider something that drops effigies.

Thanks a lot for your feedback everyone, that means I'll have to go grab the elite void bottoms then. Hope that doesn't take too long...

The only thing I don't like about void is that I can't charge its helms with iron titan scrolls... that won't be an issue for a while though, considering defense is last on the list.

Black Demons in the chaos tunnel resource dungeon are a decent alternative when using a combat familiar.

You would get around 90-100k melee xp/hr + 30k or so from the familiar. Not as fast as the undead ofc, but is a great afk training method, that also provides charms and effigies every ~2.5hrs (on avg). (The effigies can be spent on prayer or summoning and at 95+ or so is a free 800-1m worth of xp if you are going for 99)

Otherwise you can try LRC, reports of at east 150k xp an hr + from there, with limited charms and a chance at effigies (Would be slow though due to expected drop rate vs kill rate)

Those are the only alternatives I can think of. Neither method uses a salve however the increased xp per lp from living rock makes up for that & the additional charm/effigies from black demons for that method.

Yeah, monkey skeletons have no drops, and especially the lack of effigies makes them less attractive.

I'd go with full elite void deflector (defender + void gloves works too), barrows gloves, fury/salve, d boots, berserker (i), fire cape, rapier. Using turm/extremes of course. Then kill either lrc, armoured zombies or black demons, as Vex said.
