dsavi
Thanks for the feedback guys/girls, I won an iPad. The newspaper will also interview me.So, one iPad for sale then. [spoiler=Old]Here's the final version I submitted to the contest: [spoiler=old]Edit: Version two: (Yeah I know there's a lot of wasted space didn't have time to finish it yet) Here it is. The colors are very specific and there for a reason (It mirrors the design of the newspaper). There's still a lot to work out like font sizes and some of the actual UI functionality, which will be described, not implemented (By me anyway); everything you see here is mocked up in Inkscape in about half a day or so. Long story short it's a bit like the Slashdot model of news syndication, if you're familiar with that. Basically there are different "Channels" of news according to category, users can select channels according to taste and browse multiple channels or just one channel. Each tab shown is a channel, in addition I would add another channel that is all of them mixed together. The news in the channels is published like a Twitter or facebook feed, newest at the top, new pushes down old etc. Comments on fonts and font sizing especially appreciated, although I'm mostly happy with the font I have, if you have another font that would look good (And work for commercial use, Open Font License, public domain or similar) feel free to recommend it. C/C, feedback, comments please. I'm also aware of bad visibility of, for example, the "Sport" tab. Lots more stuff will be added later too. RichardG
I would most definitely remove that blue to white gradient background image there. Also the CSS3 border-radius attribute might be useful. Most browsers support that now. =] Visit my Toolscape blog
Hegelstad
Layout 8/10 - Simple but great, I hate messy layout with a lot of things to comprehend at once, and I don't find "many" categories where helpful either, but this seems pretty right to me.Design 8/10 - A good start, Logo is a bit boring though but I like the menubar, but it could need a small bit of work. Color scheme is also great IMO.Language 2/10 (joke) - Swedish is a bad language, Norwegian is waaaay better. The corners of those boxes are square because that is the style of the newspaper. Color scheme is also great IMO.The logo isn't mine, I can't change it. -5/10 for your language because it's Norwegian. Thanks for the feedback so far. dsavi
New version is up. I know, a double-post bump but I need feedback.
obfuscator
Are you stuck with the colours? I like this design better - your first was a little simpler which I like but newspapers typically go for a more cluttered look which you've moved towards a little bit(at least with the navigation) "It's not a rest for me, it's a rest for the weights." - Dom Mazzetti
tripsis
The new version is much better :P I'm not sure how I feel about all the colours though. I mean I know that the colours themselves are chosen for a reason but I'm not sure I like how they're in so many places. - 99 fletching | 99 thieving | 99 construction | 99 herblore | 99 smithing | 99 woodcutting - - 99 runecrafting - 99 prayer - 125 combat - 95 farming - - Blog - DeviantART - Book Reviews & Blog
Juhnie
The new version is much better :P I'm not sure how I feel about all the colours though. I mean I know that the colours themselves are chosen for a reason but I'm not sure I like how they're in so many places.I find that sticking with three or four colours all over the site (as long as they aren't really bright colours or such) is quite a pleasant thing to look at. I mean, just look at Tip.It. :DCan't really think of anything to change in the new design, in my opinion it looks awesome. All other newspapers shall vanish into the shadows cast by the new awesome site of Hufvudstatsbladet (if that design gets chosen that is) :P Master of Attack ~ August 29th, 2010Proud to have served the awesome Tip.It Crew <
dsavi
Yeah the colors are weird because they're actually print colors. They probably need to be darkened and desaturated to compensate for that. The tabs are weird too, I'm sending it in today (Deadline) so maybe I'll get a chance to fix them. Gonna hopefully work on it all day at school.
Shiny
I like the colours and the way they are used. They definitely could be desaturated somewhat though.
dsavi
The images in the first post are the "final" ones that I submitted. Waiting for the judging to begin/end/commence/whatever.
obfuscator
Very nice :) I like it much better seeing it with actual content (although still not a huge fan of the nav colour combo). dsavi
Yeah the content is really what made it look good at all in the end. I was really annoyed with the design until I put in content.

obfuscator
Congrats man, well deserved :D Will they actually use that on their site now? If so, link the site once they adopt it. dsavi
Yeah my idea is the "Initial idea" I guess, they'll eventually take it into use. The address is http://hbl.fi , of course it'll be a while (Probably sometime in the spring) until the new version of the site is actually finished and online.
