Conquest

As implied by the title, I want to play conquest again but I want to try a new, effective setup. I don't want to suicide, which means almost o games, so I want to win the games I play. So, I'd like some advice on troops and commands. I'll look at what others say and mix it up so it fits my style. Any help is appreciated. Thanks all~

Yay someone who doesn't want to boost their conquest rank!

I personally used 2 champs, 7 scouts, bombard, battle cry and the health restore thing (can't remember name). I got to 2.1k rank + #7 overall for a while using this.

Also a good strategy to fool them if they use rangers /magers is to stand 1 square away from their max hit range with a scout. Max hit range would be their max walking distance + max attack distance +1. They'll move forward thinking they can get you, but once they move, they're in your scout's range but they can't hit you. If you battlecry as you're running up to them, a hit from a mage /ranger won't kill you and it'll allow you 2 range/mage kills in 1 scout.

if you don't get what i'm saying i'll explain it again in a hurry atm.

Thanks for the tip! And yes, I agree barely anyone plays conquest just for the sake of playing it. Finding a match is nearly impossible. But that tip's great, and no worries, I see what you're getting at. Thanks again :)

I use two knights an archer a scout and the rest halberds with charge, battle cry, shield wall and chastise. It works rather well, 5 halberds allowing some sacrifice.

It would be useful if you can keep track of what commands your opponent has.

Like Cheeze said, always keep in mind the effective and potential ranges (after using Charge) of opposing pieces:

Rangers: 9 (12)

Mages: 8 (12)

Scouts: 7 (13)

Halberders: 6 (10)

Others: 5 (9)

and make sure important pieces are out of the line of fire. Vertical direction is most important at the start of the game, but when it comes to the endgame, remember to use horizontal direction to your advantage too.

I find Halberders are quite effective now, as they are the only ranged pieces with more than 100 health, and come cheaper than mages and archers. Ranged just means you won't suffer from effects of rebound hits easily.

In terms of commands, Battle Cry and Charge seem to be the most important to me. Regenerate if you champion your champions, but it's quite expensive. I used to use Vigilance, but most experienced opponents can counter that easily, so Stoicism tends to work out better.

You're right in saying you should mix things up though :P It really is about your style of gameplay. I'm incredibly defensive personally.

Thanks all. Atm my setup is 1 champ, 2 scouts, 2 halberdiers, 1 mage, 1 archer, and a foot soldier, (I think, too lazy to check) with battle cry, chastise, vigilance and charge. I find it works pretty well as I have the halberdiers, mage and archer to handle any knights and so on and the scouts to kill other team's rangers. Personally I just like the champ because it's always a good backup if my main pieces get killed, because I play a very offensive strategy.

I don't think conquests i really something you can get crystal clear advice on is all about YOU and THEM.

No 1 setup can beat every other setup and with every single setup theres the human aspect of your forward planning, logic, predictions etc.

It's like the whole all champ team = ownage. This may be true if you are good at the strategy part of the game. But in the first few days I pwned heaps of all champ teams with a single champ team, simply by forward planning and good tactical use of troops.

It's all luck in the end.

Every team has gotta be a tank team (mostly melee), balanced or a snipe team (archers, mages scouts etc)

You have to play defensive or offensive

You have to play by sheer power or by wit or a balance.

The endless variables make it so at any given time ur team culd suddenly be sucky comapred to the opponent.

Personally I have a balanced squad and tend to play with wit rather than power and stick on the defensive for most of the time.

For me this works well until I come up agaisnt someone who has a good sniping team that plays by power or a tank team that plays defence and stays clustered.

My teams strength lies in being able to quickly take out most units after luring them away from the herd, plus carefully choosen commands to make a nice "beserker" style champ, but also allow sniping to be done safely.

Like I said, I mainly wanted advice so I could build my own team taking elements from separate tips. I mostly play balanced, though, because I find it works best.

~Thanks.
