Harpy
Well, I got a freaking nice camera (Canon EOS Rebel 2Ti) for Christmas, but haven't really tried it out much. I found this sweet coke can and decided it'd be a sick picture (or so I thought). So I took a shot of it. Leme know what you think. This is the FIRST time i've tried to really take a "photogenic" photo. haha. So any c/c would be greatly appreciated. RESIZED: [hide=WARNING: Lots of Pictures] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- #1: #2: #3: #4 (my try at macro): #5 (another one): #6: #7: ~Just some explanation on this one, I was trying to see if I could take a somewhat interesting photo with the beautfil cherry blossom in the foreground, but still be able to recognize/see the cool bright-red sculpture in the background. Tell me what you think. Personally don't think it's that good. #8: (another try at macro): ~Same as above, just tried to do it through a macro shoot this time. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- I took these a couple weeks earlier when I was at the National Art Muesum in DC with a friend of mine. Leme know what you think (those hands aren't mine by the way). --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Some taken at on the way to go skiing and while down in the Florida Keys. [/hide] {sorry about size, my camera takes LARGE pictures} Oh yes, I also have a question about how to maintain image quality. I use Photoshop CS5 right now for editing, but I was wondering, what is the best way to save an image file besides .psd (so like, .bmp? .png? .jpg?). Also, what is a good online image-hosting website? I am using tinypic right now, cuz thats all I could think of. Some help on this would be appreciated. ~Coquendo 92 Fishing | 92 Firemaking | 92 Dungeoneering | 99 Cooking100% FTP | 800+ Total | 19 Combat Optima dies.. prima fugit. .::. Sam
First of all, RESIZE - as you are using PS CS5 it's easy - image > image size, then just enter desired values - 400 x 600 is normally best for web. The image isn't showing up for me right so I can't really say much. 100% quality .jpg is normally best for web usage. PNG is good if you really want to showcase high quality shots because it is able to reproduce 16 bit shots (wider range of colors). imgur is a good image sharing service. 2257AD.TUMBLR.COM

Most of my friends said .jpg is trash and that best is .BMP and .PNG. I used .BMP in that above image. Ok, I'll try resizing and then uploading with imgur. Thanks for the help. Any helpful input? EDIT: OK, resized it.. What do you think? 92 Fishing | 92 Firemaking | 92 Dungeoneering | 99 Cooking100% FTP | 800+ Total | 19 Combat Optima dies.. prima fugit. .::. Sam
It's absolutely fine for most photography, if anything BMP is terrible for photography. 2257AD.TUMBLR.COM

Sam
While BMP may be 'lossless' it is unnecessary to use on the internet - people won't know the difference if you don't tell them it's a bmp. 2257AD.TUMBLR.COM
tripsis
JPG is only terrible for like "pixel" images (taking RuneScape screenshots). Nadril
A general rule of thumb is png for anything with text or pixels, jpeg for that without.
Ouchy
Seeing as you haven't been given any CC yet I'll give it some. I like how you have used Rule of the Thirds, it makes this picture look slightly better. However, it seems like a pretty generic Point and Shoot photo, with no attempt to try compositon or anything. It just looks like you just shot the picture from where you were standing and changed the aperture to give some depth. This shot could have been so much better with different angles and just plain experimenting. Experiment. Try heaps of different techniques to take photos of different things. See what works and what doesn't. My relaxation method involves a bottle of lotion, beautiful women, and partial nudity. Yes I get massages. See what works and what doesn't. Thank so much for the CC. I am an EXTREMELY amateur photographer. This is probably one of maybe five photo's that I have tried to be "professional" with (ever) or whatever. Could you (or someone else), per chance, post some pictures that represent different styles, etc.? Or maybe there is a topic in-Gallery on this subject already, if so could you direct me to it possibly? Because, to be honest, I have absolutely no idea where to start, or whatever. Anyways, that'd be most appreciated. 92 Fishing | 92 Firemaking | 92 Dungeoneering | 99 Cooking100% FTP | 800+ Total | 19 Combat Optima dies.. prima fugit. .::. Shiny
I think that is as good first shot as any! The composition is nice, and I love the colour pop. The rule of thirds is definitely a good place to start when thinking about taking a photo.

Thanks Nash. :) Well, I experimented some more with my camera, nothing uploadable yet. hehe. Anyways, I was looking through my picture files, and found these two pictures I took 2-3 months ago. Both of them are sunrises, one was in the Florida Keys, and the other I took on the drive up to Blue Knob in Pennsylvania. This was like at 6:30 AM at the keys, the sun hadn't completely come out yet. Then this one I took on the way up to go skiing (at Blue Knob).. It was about 5:30 AM. Hahaha. They aren't amazing, but let me know what you think. 92 Fishing | 92 Firemaking | 92 Dungeoneering | 99 Cooking100% FTP | 800+ Total | 19 Combat Optima dies.. prima fugit. .::. Shiny
Love the atmosphere in the first one, though I think it'd be much better without the branches.
Harpy
Love the atmosphere in the first one, though I think it'd be much better without the branches. I'm not sure if it'd do "better" without them, but it could definitely do better with less of them. haha. I don't really like the second one all that much because it seems a bit fake. I used a lens-flare thinking it'd help, but of course lens-flare screws everything over, so note to self never again. haha. 92 Fishing | 92 Firemaking | 92 Dungeoneering | 99 Cooking100% FTP | 800+ Total | 19 Combat Optima dies.. prima fugit. .::. Harpy
Well.. I went on the National Eppilepsy Walk in DC today for my cousin (Miss you Jess! <3 xoxo) and I decided to bring my camera along and take some pictures.. they aren't all that good, but here are some of them. The acctual shots themselves aren't very good, but I just love the whole hand-sculpture. I'd love to learn how to do this one day. 92 Fishing | 92 Firemaking | 92 Dungeoneering | 99 Cooking100% FTP | 800+ Total | 19 Combat Optima dies.. prima fugit. .::. Hobgoblinpie
Just thought I'd add in that JPEG is designed to utilise lossy compression - but only when it's told to. If using Photoshop, you can choose the level of compression, and therefore retain quality. If you were using Microsoft's Paint tool, you would lose quality quickly. PNG is fine for thumbnails, but full sized images saved in the PNG format are ridiculously large because the compression algorithm is lossless (and therefore it is limited). Example settings for saving JPEGs: Quality: 12Format Options: Progressive (Scans set to 5) POH Agility Course, Please Support!
