There is a feature on IPB.Board called 'Topic Rating' where users can rate topics out of 5 stars. I think that this could be a useful addition to the Achievements sub-forum.

Yes, there is a per forum option so it doesn't need to be enabled on every board on the forum.

Weren't the big overhaul changes to the Achievements (Rate This!) section because of favoritism and giving low rankings to users simply out of a popularity contest? Such an update seems like it would only contradict that work.

Topics are usually posted to receive feedback on their achievements. Yes there is always bias, but censoring opinions doesn't really help anyone out.

I normally hate to play "Devil's Advocate", but she's nailed it on the head. Seriously, there's way too much room for abuse on this one, sorry. :(

I'm not arguing ideology with you, just what has happened in the past. Rating boming can't be recorded by the moderators, can it? Offensive posts/stupid posts can, which would make it far easier to see a pattern and take action on it accordingly. If you honestly wanted the rating system back, it'd be better to change it back to Rate This! again. And towards the end, Rate This! sucked. The new guidelines of the Achievements subforum and more streamlined moderation has made the environment there much more pleasant.

So why would this rating system be better (or different) than the old rating system that failed miserably and overall lead to a more enjoyable change?

I just don't think it's a logically sound idea, and I don't like it personally.

I'd love if it this could work, but it's been shown in the past that people can't vote on things properly and a lot of people abuse the system. That's one of the reasons we've never opened up the option to give positive or negative reputation to users/threads.

A little off the topic here.. but a feature like this for General Guides might actually be useful :P

Yeah, it would actually.

Sort of similar, so I'll mention it here. What about positive-only reputation on posts? It's been a while since this was mentioned and I've been seeing a lot of witty posts across the forums that I want to thumb-up. :)

In an upcoming version of IPB I think there's supposed to be a "like" feature coming out :P

Is that similar to a +rep button, ie. board wide, or is it per post? I'd quite like to see that kind of thing as a forum-wide thing.

Probably per post :P Not 100% sure though.
