Begbie
"Void melee helm: +10% to Attack and damage" what does this actually mean? does it simply add 10% to whatever my attack and strength bonuses are at the time? what about my actual att/str levels, where do they come into it? i'm trying to understand if/when this set effect would result in more damage dealt than with the usual strength boosting gear like Bandos etc. cheers, It is better to remain silent and be thought a noob than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt. Cheat
I'm not exactly sure of the maths behind it. But using tip its max hit calculator you can see that the max hit with strength boosting gear is lower than that with void gear. Equenox
Basically Void add's 10% to your final strength calculated level after factoring in Prayers etc.Equipment bonus is factored in later when calculating your base damage. Quyneax
If you have, say, 72 strength and +64 strength bonus (for simplicity's sake), your max hit is 5 + 80*2. If you add a void set to that, it becomes 5 + 80*2*1.1. Begbie
...your max hit is 5 + 80*2... where do those numbers come from if you don't mind me asking? not saying i don't believe you, just curious! does the tip.it max hit calculator work on the same formula? based on that, my max hit would be slightly higher with void (we're talking 2 LP...) but how do i calculate accuracy? i gain 10% but lose 12 attack bonus off the Barrows gloves... cheers, It is better to remain silent and be thought a noob than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt. Quyneax
It's 5 + (level + 8)(gear bonus +64)(void bonus)/64 Level = (base level + pot bonus)*prayer*slayer helmet/salve I do believe the tip.it calc works according to these formulas. Attack works the same way just use attack over strength level. Really? Cause as I recall it was you who was the one cussing me at base. Also, re-read what you just said: one 15 second delay (which is an exaggeration to begin with) ruins floor times? You are beyond ridiculous.
Begbie
ok so i had a wee play with the numbers and it seems like strength bonus is the key thing here (in terms of max hit anyway). for Void to be better, the rest of your gear needs to give you a strength bonus of over ~140, otherwise you should use Bandos etc. which means someone using rapier+ddef would be better sticking with Bandos...? does that sound right? (still don't know about the accuracy - if you hit less zeros in Void the overall DPS could still be higher despite the lower average hit...) Quyneax
The max hit formula was deduced empirically on the RSOF iirc. Grimy Bunyip then thought that attack and defence would offer similar rolls. This system is quite common in d20 system games (D&D for example). Since the theory appears to fit well to reality, it's fairly commonly accepted. For example the theory shows how strength > accuracy.
