Getting to level 85, ranged-based, plus some equipment questions

As I've written in some of my Tip.It Times articles, my combat level is ranged-based. Although I've created this character all the way back at the launch of the RS2 beta, I've never really played for any serious amount of time. However, somehow I've finally caught the bug about a week and a half ago, and I've made a huge leap forward. I've finally reached several goals that I've had without actually doing anything about them for several years, namely 55 slayer (for broad-tipped bolts) and 60 attack and defence (for dragon equipment). I've also gained a few ranged levels, and the 85 combat milestone suddenly seems very attainable. Right now I have the following combat stats:

- 78 ranged

- 62 defence

- 69 constitution

- 52 prayer

- 35 summoning

Right now I'm thinking of reaching 85 combat with the following stats:

- 80 ranged

- 67 defence

- 70 constitution

- 55 prayer

- 40 summoning

Ranged, defence and constitution would be trained through slayer tasks, with lower level tasks being done with melee and higher level tasks being done with ranged. Prayer and summoning would mainly come from penguin points, XP lamps and similar methods. I chose these stats because they seem to be the easiest (not necessarily the fastest) way to 85 combat, although I'm always open to suggestions on different stat spreads that would give the same result, as long as my combat level would remain ranged-based.

As for equipment, I've made quite a decent amount of money through giant mole kills. For both melee and ranged I have pretty much every relevant piece of equipment that costs less than 1m to buy. For ranged I have the focus sight, dark bow, Karil's crossbow and amulet of ranging. For melee I have the dragon scimitar, dragon dagger (p++), brackish blade, black mask, dragon med, boots and legs, granite plate and obsidian cape and shield. With this equipment, I seem to be able to handle everything, although with this too I'm open to suggestions of anything else I might need. The only condition is that it's priced reasonably (1m or less). Barring any major expenses, I'll be saving up most of my money to buy a Guthix book, followed by an Armadyl book. I know that a Zamorak book would probably be better, but I don't think it's worth the money at this time.

So those are the two major things I need help and advice on. Getting to 85 combat, and any equipment I might be missing.

It's probably best doing it all through slayer. It's not that many levels you need.

Your equipment looks good - but i strongly recommend getting a dragon defender.

If it were me....

I would bury every bone got through slayer (or buy ~500 big bones and go to someone elses gilded altar to burn them)

Charms for 40 summoning will come naturally from getting 2 ranged and 5 defence levels through slayer, as will 70 hp. - So don't worry about them.

Might be worth ranging some blue dragons if you need a bit of cash, or just do it once again through slayer. Might be worth doing some defensive ranging (where range xp and defence xp is split)

Thank you to tripsis for an awesome sig!

Getting a defender: I've thought about it, but getting the stats needed would make me a melee character. For now I'll make do with an obsidian shield.

Burying bones: I already bury any big bones and anything better I get. Never even tried an altar though, thanks for that.

Summoning: I have a huge stack of charms because I basically never used the skill. Everything I got, I got through penguins. I've run the penguin point calculator on this site, and if I were to turn in 8 points next week, assuming there's some penguins I can't reach such as in the elven lands, I'd be level 38. I suppose training from there would be easy.

Ranging dragons: I've actually gotten from 40 to 65 ranged doing almost nothing but green dragons near one of the ancient teleporters in the wilderness, and I spent quite a lot of time at the blue dragons in the ogre enclave too. It would be a quick way to rack up some dragon bones, as my house is there too. I usually just buried the bones I got (it's how I got to 52 prayer), but I suppose saving them for an altar would make more sense.

Thanks :)

If you have a large stack of charms and decent wealth, the first step would be to get a spirit terrorbird. It's pretty much 50% more bones/ashes carried per trip (allowing 4 spaces for pots etc.) which is rather good if you wish to DIY prayer. I think at that level it isn't even inefficient to DIY it (provided you're banking infernal ashes and dragon bones only).

80 ranged, 70 hp and 52 summoning would get you do level 85.

I decided to go the big bones route. I'm 56 prayer now, and I'll probably use the rest of my money on summoning. I have about 600k left to spend (if that Armadyl page ever sells <_<). Also, here is my adventure log, for reference.
