das
If their intent was actually to help the companies - fine. But I think it's pretty clear from the quotes that they're doing it for stupid "look at what we can do and get away with" reasons. It doesn't seem like they're trying to help anyone. They just want to show off and piss people off. It's a double edge sword. While I feel it's unfair to the home users of Sonypictures who got leaked, Sony has now been publicly shown the errors of it's ways to where it cannot hide from the public. Doing this forces change whereas private would possibly cause feet dragon. Messing with the government is domestic terrorism though and i feel is a dishonor to your country to publicly expose them like they have done "Any people anywhere, being inclined and having the power, have the right to rise up, and shake off the existing government, and form a new one that suits them better. This is a most valuable - a most sacred right - a right, which we hope and believe, is to liberate the world."Abraham Lincoln
Alg
What's with all the negative responses on this thread? When did [bleep]ing with the government become something to be shunned? [bleep] the pigs :thumbsup:Until they decide to strike back and get rid of anonymity and internet freedoms for everyone. See: The Post-9/11 world. Rien
What's with all the negative responses on this thread? When did [bleep]ing with the government become something to be shunned? [bleep] the pigs :thumbsup:Because it ultimately threatens net neutrality. Hacking into government-affiliated sites for [cabbage]s and giggles gives politicians more of a reason to consider cracking down and implementing stricter Internet regulations. EDIT: Beat to it by Mask, heh. Edited June 5, 2011 by Rien Interested in helping the Tip.It Crew? Check out our Website Updates & Corrections Board! TrueBeaver
I'd like to see them locked up. They clearly weren't doing it for any beneficial purpose, they were doing it to prove a point. My views have been said many times throughout this thread. "The chief duty of the government is to keep the peace and stand out of the sunshine of the people." - James A. Garfield"If you have always believed that everyone should play by the same rules and be judged by the same standards, that would have gotten you labeled a radical 60 years ago, a liberal 30 years ago and a racist today." -Thomas Sowell"Profits are evidence of the creation of social value, not deductions from the sum of the common good." - Kevin D. Nomrombom
Well, I don't think they should execute it exactly as they do, but they seem to want to help raise awareness a little bit. I bet you if I had enough time/energy to attempt to get into every account on Tip it using the password "password" I could get over 50 accounts. People need to realize that it's a real threat. Having your password guessed in a matter of seconds is pathetic. I use 12+ characters for everyday passwords and I have a password 30 characters long for a more secure area. http://www.passwordmeter.com/ is a fairly good site for checking password strength. Anything less than good is not secure and should not be expected to stand up to a brute force attack. PM me for fitocracy invite

aspeeder
Messing with the government is domestic terrorism though and i feel is a dishonor to your country to publicly expose them like they have doneTo me calling something like this domestic terrorism is just the government putting a spin in current events. How does this inspire fear in the populous? The only way I'd see it doing that is showing how vulnerable some of our cyber systems are, which they already were to begin with, and now the government might actually improve the security/personnel from all the negative press. http://i700.photobucket.com/albums/ww6/aspeeder/Siggy_zpsewaiux2t.png 99 Strength since 6/02/10 99 Attack since 9/19/10 99 Constitution since 10/03/10 99 Defense since 3/14/11 99 Slayer since 8/30/11 99 Summoning since 9/10/11 99 Ranged since 09/18/11 99 Magic since 11/12/11 99 Prayer since 11/15/11 99 Herblore since 3/29/12 99 Firemaking since 5/15/12 99 Smithing since 10/04/12 99 Crafting since 9/16/13 99 Agility since 9/23/13 99 Dungeoneering since 1/1/14 99 Fishing since 2/4/14 99 Mining since 2/28/14 99 Farming since 6/04/14 99 Cooking since 6/11/14 99 Runecrafting since 10/10/14 9 Fletching since 11/11/14 99 Thieving since 11/14/14 99 Woodcutting since 11/20/14 99 Construction since 12/03/14 99 Divination since 2/22/15 99 Hunter since 2/23/15 99 Invention since 01/20/17 99 Archaeology since 5/14/22Quest Point Cape since 08/20/09 Maxed since 2/23/15 Fire Cape since 02/27/13 Slayer: 3 Leaf-Bladed Swords, 8 Black Masks, 2 Hexcrests, 26 Granite Mauls, 5 Focus Sights, 32 Abyssal Whips, 9 Dark Bows, 1 Whip Vine, 3 Staffs of Light, 15 Polypore Sticks Dragon: 9 Draconic Visages, 7 Shield Left Halves, 20 Dragon Boots, 40 Dragon Med Helms, 8 Dragon Platelegs, 6 Dragon Spears, 20 Dragon Daggers, 5 Dragon Plateskirts, 1 Dragon Chainbody, 63 Off-hand Dragon Throwing Axes, 19 Dragon Longswords, 27 Dragon Maces, 1 Dragon Ward Treasure Trails: Saradomin Full Helm, Ranger Boots, Rune Body (t), Saradomin Vambraces, Various God Pages Misc:1 Onyx,1 Ahrim's Hood, 1 Guthan's Chainskirt, 1 Demon Slayer Boots
The Observer
Sure encouraging them to improve their security is fine, but outright hacking and doing it because they can get away with it is just crying to governments to remove anonymity completely from the Internet. Nomrombom
Brings to mind the case where the US government tried to take down Demonoid, and Demonoid just said [bleep] off because it's Swedish or Swiss or something.
