Farming help about trees needed

Hello.

 

So I started farming palm trees yesterday. About 24 hours ago... And the time for them to grow is ~14 hrs... I know it can take longer than 14 hrs, but 10 hrs longer? Well... I heard if you use supercompost before planting the seedlings, they'll grow faster.

 

Confirm / deny: Fruit trees grow faster if you use supercompost before planting.

Are you paying for the farmer to watch after your tree?

 

If so, what's probably happening is, your fruit tree is getting diseased and set back a growth cycle. The farmer cures the disease for you, but it still will take longer to grow than normal.

 

Supercompost does reduce the chance of plants (including trees) becoming diseased, but the farming timers can still get reset/set back because of it.

Serp is right.It's better to supecompost them due to the fact that the farmer cures them of disease.I've heard of even longer times on some trees.You just have to patient and not log in every 5 minutes. Seems to have an effect on the growth rates of herbs/trees(a bad effect, by restarting their present farming stages).

Hmm... Yea of course I am paying for them to look after my trees. If supercompost reduces the chance of plants becoming diseased, I'll start using it. I'm already using it with yew trees (because cactus spines are probably more than the seed!) so I'll start using with palm trees. :P Thanks.

On that note, are you familiar with the rule/guidelines on when to pay for a farmer to watch over your crops, versus when it isn't worth it?

I check my fruit trees every 24 hrs, just to be sure. It happens that it takes the longer to grow, but longer than 24 hrs is really rare.

 

And yes the tree still gets diseased even when the farmer is watching it for you.

For trees there's a 1/10(either this or 1/8, haven't farmed them in a while) chance of them dieing. Currently the payment for the yew trees outweighs the cost of a dead yew, so you're better off not paying for them.

Just to add on to what Aslan has already said... <3:

 

The basic rule-of-thumb for payments is: If the Cost of Payment is 10% or More than the Cost of Seed, you SHOULDN'T pay for it to be watched.

 

As Aslan said, there is only a 1/10 (or 10%) chance of your tree dying, so it is often cheaper to just risk the tree dying and simply buy a new seed if needed. If you have unlocked the Scroll of life ability from Dungeoneering, it might even be slimmer odds than 10%.

 

 

For example:

 

MAPLE TREES:

Cost of Seed: 33,800 GP

Cost of Payment [1 Basket oranges (5)]: 2,095 GP

2,095 is Less than 10% of 33,800 (33,800 x 0.10 = 3,380 GP) so you SHOULD pay to watch Maples.

 

YEW TREES:

Cost of Seed: 82,100 GP

Cost of Payment [10 Cactus spines]: 65,310 GP (10 x 6,531 GP per spine)

65,310 is More than 10% of 82,100 (33,800 x 0.10 = 8,210 GP) so you SHOULDN'T pay to watch Yews.

 

 

On a final note, (and this is just from personal experience) if you ARE paying for a farmer to watch after your trees, you really don't need to bother Supercomposting/Fertile Soiling them, as this is just a waste of compost/runes. I would only Supercompost/Fertile Soil your trees if you opt out of paying the farmer to watch them.

The fertile soil spell is even cheaper, saves inventory space, and saves weight. I'd honestly use it over supercompost at all times. Lunars is pro for farming anyway.

In the long run that guideline works out better.

 

If you pay for all the trees you do yourself out of affording more seeds, which means in the long run you invest far more gp and take longer (more money making breaks to restock seeds)

That entirely depends on your income, as with all efficiency-related matters. If you value farming xp high enough, it's worth paying. E.g. if you pay the ~60k for a yew tree (payment cost - 10% seed cost) you value your farming xp at 600k per whatever a yew tree gives. Now that means you should upgrade to magic in the first place, but the principle holds: you should examine how much you would have to value your xp at.
