Troll Bomber
I've started to train agility, fm, and mining lately, and can't decide whether or not a barb horn is worth it. I understand it greatly decreases time actually spent training that particular skill, but possible training time is spent to charge the horn in the first place, so it depends. Does anyone know how fast, or how successful you have to play/be at B.A. in order for the horn to make sense? How does the horn empty? Is it based off of bonus xp given out, x-items done (example: making 1k fires), or just based on time holding it or what? I really want to try to be efficient as possible when I'm doing these slower skills, but need to know when using a horn even helps.
Cheat
Horn is definitely worth it for mining and agility if you are a competent BA player. As to FM I think if you were to use Yews/Mages horn charging time would be less efficient than simply training away. I'm afraid I don't know the maths exactly behind the horn however. Quyneax
The horn is worth it if you can fill it faster than you can empty it. If you also lose/gain money training a skill (= firemaking, mining) then take the time to empty as the time to make money (can be negative) + use up the money. Emptying is based on xp; you get approximately one million agility/mining xp or three million firemaking xp from one full horn, increasing with level. So if your normal mining method is 50k/hr, and we assume the horn holds exactly 1m xp, you'd get 100k/hr (double 50k) which means 10 hours. If you can fill the horn in 10 hours it's worth it. A good/great team can fill the horn in about 4 hours, world 6 takes much longer, around 6 hours? It depends on your selection of teammates of course. Nomrombom
Unless you're a horrible BA player on a horrible team, using the horn is never that much less efficient. Rule of thumb is if you say BA > skill, then do BA. If skill > BA then don't. PM me for fitocracy invite
Wkw
If you are able to get 1m agility xp in 100 hours, and you are able to fill the horn in 10 hours, then with the horn, you are able to get 1m agility xp in 60 hours For things such as agility where it is nothing but grinding, it is always worth it Runescape player since 2005 Ego Sum Deus Quo Malum Caligo et Barathum
