Charms

I need charms. 99 Slayer will be the main portion of this, but it will not presently get me 99 summoning.

Given:

85 Melees, turmoil, extremes. I value my time at about 2m/hour, and can get or have all gear within reason, including c maul/rapier/void. I don't have a yak or familiar high enough for CT fiends.

Effigies would also be a nice bonus (most effigy pairs have a skill in the 90's, and I'll keep any I can't unlock).

I value melee experience, as 99 slayer will not get me max melees, but I do not value mage or range experience, as they will be maxed via slayer/lrc, so what is the most efficient way for me to get the charms I need outside of slayer? However, if it's more efficient for me to train melee elsewhere and cannon/burst charms, I'll do that.

I've been using this set up for waterfiends at ancient cavern.

Full elite melee void, chaotic maul, fury, zerk ring (i), dboots, sw cape

I use a bunyip for healing as they don't hit much and drop cooked sharks, but i also bring about 6 monkfish for emergencies. The rest of my inventory is 2 super attacks, 2 super strengths, holy wrench, lunar staff, all prayer pots.

I pray piety and protect from range at all times, with the massive prayer bonus in the gear above it drains rather slowly and you can last about 50 minutes with that many prayer pots.

I get roughly 120 crimson charms an hour like this and the occasional effigy.

Pretty sure with 95 prayer I'd last longer than 50 mins with that many ppots :)

With the little I've done fiends, I'm fairly sure soulsplit flashing > range pray, too?

So, waterfiends are really my only option? Their effigy droprate is terrible :/

Cave crawlers are very efficient if you can afford them, even without 99 summoning.

Tormented demons are great too, they only require a unicorn and can make you significant money to crawler 95-99.

Black demons are good if you want to get a steel titan before crawlering.

I like the idea of doing TD's/crawlers for charms, I wasn't actually aware either dropped significant amounts of charms. I was already planning to do it for runecrafting at some point after slayer :P

Is there any good (quantitative) data on charms/hour for them?

Edit: Do overloads affect cannon damage at all? I expect I'd use them for TD's at least.

Assuming the effigyscape numbers are accurate, for urning ashes and counting them as prayer experience (~19 gp/xp counting time costs for me) black demons don't look very expensive either, to get to 88.... Probably cheaper than rock lobs.

Crawlers are fairly bad charms actually, but they drop effigies so often that you can use them on summoning xp to get a notable amount of experience depending on your level. (The money saved on not buying secondaries might even pay for the cannonballs.)

I hear that boosts do effect cannon accuracy, so an overload would be the same as an extreme attack (if using melee) I'm not sure if this is even true though.

If you killed 50 tormented demons in 1 hour (Hard, but possible) you would likely get 25 crimson charms and 67 blue charms. And they have a very good effigy rate seeing as they're 450 combat. And i'm sure the pairs of claws wouldn't hurt your bank either. *So jealous of people that can do TD's*

Crawlers are pretty good for charms, Powerfrog, the trouble is they are mainly green charms and that picking up charms hurts your killrate due to the arrangement around the cannon being disrupted/missing attack turns. If you use your effigies on summoning though, I don't think crawlers are that efficient - you'd be better off using them on runecrafting and agility.

As for tds, you can count on 40 kills per hour with a steel titan. That's about 1 effigy every 2 hours and about 20 crims and 60 blues. 50 kills per hour requires either virtus and barrage or a steel titan (and a lot of skill either way).
