Def - 85 vs 99

Hello everyone,

Can anyone estimate or explain how much more effective 99 def is than 85? I don't have above 85 because back when I used to train melee I got so bored and just left it at 85. Is it worth it to get 99 and just max out? I'm not talking pvm or pvp, just in general. Although I did like being able to attack level 99s in the green dragon area near the old clan wars place..Is it fun to be maxed out? (I'm also planning on prayer and ranged sometime)

edit: sorry Kimberly, I did it again. wrong forum category. I really DID mean to put in help and advice lol, its just a bad habit.

This should have been in H&A, but defense is really one of those things that is either important or unimportant depending on the situation. If you boss a lot or do high level PvP, you will want to try to max your defense. If you just do slayer and low level PvM, then defense really doesn't change things a whole lot. However, you might as well get 99. It won't ever hurt you in any situation.

Moved to Help&Advice.

99 defence (technically 97 or 98) means you'll be able to left-click attack any player and cave crawlers. For me that's worth it.

You've maxed your other melee so why not get def too, what seems like a small difference will sometimes be worth it. Sure, you'll hit lower when training it but once it's done it's done, do it with Slayer and it'll be fine.
