I think im just going to go to the Sony website and customize one of their PC's.

That way I know i'll be getting something with good quality.

Or I'll go to alienware.com and customize one of theirs.

-.- I have a serious problem then

1) I dont know how to build a computer

2) I picked out the parts that I wanted but I was told they were not compatable with each other

3) I dont want a AMD processor and everytime someone suggests a computer they suggest a AMD processor

4) If I bought all these parts I dont know how to actually put them together so I would be kinda screwed.

5) Alienware is bad you say

6) Sony is bad you say

wtf should I do?

Ok, I want to know the amount it will take to persuade you into:

1. Buying an AMD processor

and

2. Building your own PC.

1.The AMD processors are much better than intel ones unless you plan to compile movies. If you want, just take a look at processor benchmarks around the internet, you won't find many that show Intel being better than AMD at something.

2. Building your own PC, you can learn tonnes of new things about PC's you never knew before, you can be more confident about opening one up, and you can take your time building it. If you are only 16-17 that leaves you plenty of time to plan what you need to build it, don't worry, getting it wrong is better than getting it right, as long as you come to us with what you might be getting wrong first, then we can help you.

However, if you do really want an intel, then you might as well get that laptop. What difference will it make?

Its beyond me why your shunning amd for intel, but if you want it that way, take a look at this.

Wahoo, yes you are correct that I will learn alot by building my own (and I already have learned some just by picking the items I wanted) but I dont wanna spend 1300 bucks on the stuff and then get it and either mess it up or put it together and it not work and me have wasted 1300 bucks

Stuart, the monitor you suggested looks really cheap. I really dont need 160GB of space is there any way that I can get a cheaper hard drive (one with like 50-70GB of space) and use the extra money from the cheaper drive to get a better monitor? (sorry if im pissing you off)

Everything else on that computer looks fine with me except the CORSAIR memory sticks, ive never heard of that company but as long as you say they arnt some cheap knock-off brand then thats ok. I personally like Radeon video cards over Geforce but again I can look past that.

How have you never heard of CORSAIR? Thier considered one of the best makers of ram.

Trust me thier not some cheap knock off  .

As blade995 said, Corsair arent some cheap knock off brand, they are one of the top RAM suppliers and all their products are top notch.

POWERCOLOR Radeon X1600XT 256MB Video Card - $179.00 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814131317

If you prefer an ATi card, that would probably be fine for you. Nearly half the price of the 7800gtx i listed earlier. So if you want an ATi card, look into that one.

Western Digital Caviar SE 80GB 3.5" Serial ATA150 Hard Drive - $55.00 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822135106

That would do fine if your wanting a smaller hard drive, but with the money saved off the graphics card, you could still afford a 160gb one. Its better to have too much space than not enough methinks.

Thats the monitor you listed earlier, so im assuming you think its alright so you should consider getting it.

I would defently stay clear of Foxcon. I have had DOA(dead on arival) on one of their motherboards. Then got the replacement and did not work correctly.

There is nothing wrong with Foxconn, they make good quality parts. All motherboard brands have a odd dud board (Tried and fine a board with 5 out 5 stars on Newegg, quite difficult*). They were OEM for apple for a long time.

There is a general theme of distrust towards them but that is due to the fact that they are a fairly recent arrival into the retail market. At this time i would rank foxconn before ASUS for a rig which is not going to be overclocked. If it was going to be overclocked then I would suggest Epox or DFI.

* I do not take much notice of user reviews, such things are often biased, and written by idiots who do not know what they are doing, who ordered the wrong part in the 1st place, or they are complaining about the retailers service or the postage service....

That card is barely faster then the 6600GT.... Another card which is simalar and also made by ATI and could be worth considering is the x800GTO... preformance is simalar (probably slightly slower), but can be brought for a bit cheaper.

Although in that price range, ATI is not really the best option considering you can get a 6800GS for less then $200.

Id have to disagree with you there, all the 256MB 6600GT's on newegg are clocked slower than the x1600. The only one close to the x1600 is the Leadtek 6600GT. The only thing it beats the x1600 is in the memory interface which is 256mb while the x1600 is only 128mb. The x1600 beats it in core and memory clock, its running more pixel pipelines, the 6600GT is only openGL 1.5 whilst the x1600 is openGL 2.0. Not only that, but the leadtek 6600GT is $100 more expensive than the x1600.

So unless ive misunderstood something here, at first glance, the x1600 beats out all of the 256mb 6600GT's.

I do not really look at specs, just benchmarks. Just to make sure we are discussing the same cards, I am comparing the 6600GT with the X1600XT. (The 6600gt does not benefit much from having 256mb of memory, so I ignore them)

The 6600gt prices are around $120

The X1600XT are price around $170

I must admit I could not find many benchmarks of the 1600xt... but this here http://www.guru3d.com/article/Videocards/308/1/ shows that they both preform similarly. With a slight edge to the x1600xt....

"Although performance is reasonably good for a mid-range card, this performance level was introduced by NVIDIA two years ago. This is the newest X1000 Mid-range product yet it has an awfully hard time keeping up with a two year old GeForce 6600 GT. Both win and lose to each other here and there. "

With regards to your build, everything looks fine. Although, as I already pointed out I do not consider that video card very good value for money. I would personally spend the $10-20 extra and get a 6800GS, which currently easily out preforms the x1600xt card.

This one here is currently good value.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814130265

A alternative motherboards worth considering is the ASUS 945P P5LD2 (775).

If money is tight, there is the store http://www.zipzoomfly.com , They are often cheaper then Newegg, and they often include the cost of purchase in the price.

They seem to have good ratings according to these two sites, Newegg seems slightly better...

This may be an alright alternative if you still want to get an ATi card.

The x1600xt is out of stock while the x800gto is in stock, so if you dont want to wait for the x1600xt to come in, the x800gto might be worth considering.

Aren't the x800's a generation behind x1600s?

I just posted something! ^_^ to the terrorist...er... kirbybeam.

x800's are a older series.

Both cards were released in the last few months, without checking the x1600xt is newer then the x800gto. The x800gto is based on older 'high end' technology. In general the x800gto is a better preforming card, the x1600xt has a few more toys ( HDR, SM3). The x800gto is often cheaper.

For a few dollars more a "SAPPHIRE Radeon X800GTO2" can have the extra pipes unlocked... turning it into a excellent card.(possible to reach speeds simalar to a X850 XT PE)

I'm sorry its taken me a while to reply on this topic once again i've had some bad things to happen in my life and ive had to deal with them.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814161146

That is the video card you suggest correct Stuart. It looks like a nice video card and for only 16 bucks more I can upgrade 128-bit memory interface to a 256.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814102645

Militaris would that be a good "SAPPHIRE Radeon X800GTO2" card that you recommended? The core clock on the POWERCOLOR is 600 and the HIS one is at 500 but this SAPPHIRE one is only 400. The memory clock on the POWERCOLOR is 1400, HIS is at 1000, and SAPPHIRE doesnt give the memory clock. Whats a pro to getting this SAPPHIRE over the POWERCOLOR or the HIS?
