Physics in the movies

Featured Replies

http://www.intuitor.com/moviephysics/mpmain.html. This is a pretty interesting site that judges movies by the realism of their physics, a fun read for anyone with even the most basic understanding of the basic laws. For example, about King Kong the reviewer wrote:

A human jumper would hit the sidewalk at a terminal velocity of around 120 mph (193kph). Kong's terminal velocity would be about 3 times higher but he would never reach it. Even without air resistance the maximum velocity of a fall from the top of the Empire State Building would only be 193 mph (311 kph). Kong would hit the sidewalk with the explosive power of between 10 and 27 lbs of TNT. Ape parts and blood would be splattered all over.
To be honest, I prefer that ending...

Agreed. That ending would be much better.

I've read this before. It was enjoyable to read again. It's quite interesting.

A lot of those first things I already knew, like the shotgun blowing you through the window, and the Uzi bullets.

But, I don't need some random person with far too much time on their hands to tell me what is right or wrong with a movie. If I like a movie, I like a movie.
