Sona
Like Cyrisus, I've been avoiding combat like the plague until about now. (I've grabbed a rapier the instant I hit 80 but has only used 3% charges on it. THAT gives you an idea of how much I fight. ) So. I'm not sure how, but I have everything else in the dungeoneering list minus the chaotic equipment and the three prayer scrolls. I've done some research, and it shows that CLS is very popular on high defense monsters, while maul has highest STR/crush bonus. I'd like to (eventually) start leveling slayer and other combat related skills, but the problem is that with the exception of my melee (80-83-75), everything else is around the mid 50s -70s (prayer, slayer, summoning). So I'm probably not ready to tackle anything substantial. With such low stats, does it even matter which one I grab at this point? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Syd
Maul > CLS for overall usability in all kind of monsters. You might want crossbow if you ever plan to do bosses like Armadyl or Nex. Rigour is often considered as better upgrade than crossbow though. I personally would pick in the following order.MaulRigourAuguryCLSShields I personally have only rapier though, so I'm not expert. :shame:
Quyneax
I'd save tokens until you need chaotics, get some ring tiers (tier 9 berserker is nice) and the scrolls if you intend to get a completionist cape ever. Rigour is also very good before turmoil. Deacon_Blue
I am maxed combats (bar 95 prayer) and I personally use rapier, then crossbow (by extension, Rigour), then cls, then maul, then staff as far as how much time I spend wielding them in combat. Powerfrog
[opinion] Well if you want to combat for cash, you could very well just skip melee entirely. CCB and rigour are best for nex and arma, so just get those, get 99 range, get 99 defense using a whip and you're ready for the biggest earners in the game. But i personally did (And would do again) Rapier > Maul > CCB > Rigour > CLS > CKS > EES > Staff > Farseer > AurguryCurrently only half way towards the CCB, but my mind is set on this path, unless a new update effects it. Getting shields late because i plan on having an ely sometime after rigour, which will be upgraded to a divine eventually (And possibly use a deflector on nex). And both of those beat the dungeoneering shields for pretty much anything. CLS is good for bandos solo and that's pretty much it. (Rapier isn't far behind it anyway)[/opinion]
Quyneax
Solo arma isn't the best earner, Nex is only good if you don't want effigies, and at any rate Storm of Armadyl is better for Kree anyway. The best money is still Nex, but glacors are much better in every other aspect of monster hunting. Kirschen
Personally, I bought the crossbow after I got a rapier but I was 99 ranging (added in I was still combat noob at the time) and loved the skill. Personally, I wouldn't touch the longsword since I still regret getting it till this day. If you want my opinion, you should keep your tokens until your stats get better, then decide after you reached the fork in the road. You sound like you have plenty of time to think things so no real need to rush just. Besides, the rapier seems fine on its own for the time being if you ask me.
