Mining coal in Living rock caverns

Featured Replies

I calculated that I'd actually get more money by mining coal than by mining gold. I'd just like to know if it's slower and by how much (if anyone actually tested it :P).

Thanks in advance I guess. :)

Well with my mining suit I get about 66.5 xp per gold ore and 51 xp per coal ore. So I would say about 1/4th the xp slower.

Mining here is much similar to woodcutting trees. Only difference is mining level effects how fast you obtain ores.

you get crappy money anyways, you shouldn't be opting for such lower xp

This. If the difference of money being made is trivial, you might as well stick to the faster method. I'm unsure what your goal is, but the faster it gets finished, the sooner you can focus on something else to make up that little difference, or continue mining.

Also, I found the gold mining a lot more convenient than coal in the LRC when it came to location.

Agreed. If you really wanted to just get 77 mining and mine concentrated coal till 80 then switch to concentrated gold.

Gold is about 50% faster than coal, if not more. You just gain so much more ore that it's probably better money as well (@ lrc).

If not mining at lrc, you should really really really consider mining granite and dropping it as everything else is terrible xp, but iron would be the best money + xp if you had to make money.
