Java update?

For a while now, I've been getting a message that says "Unsupported Java Warning - You are currently running a version of Java that will soon not be supported by Jagex... ETC." I was hoping this wouldn't come for a while, but today I was on, waiting for the update. When it finally came, I tried reloading the page, and it wouldn't load. At first I thought it was just down for a bit, but then I had to leave for around 5 hours. I came back and it said the Java failed to load. I realized that this probably was the update I had been dreading. my computer cannot run any better version of Java then I have, and I'm not sure if the client would work on my PowerPC Mac. So, I didn't try either of them, but now I can't even load the main screen to try and download the client. Any help? I've been paying for membership, and if I can't play RS anymore, just because I can't afford a new computer...

Try to download the mac client (they made a version for mac). What OS are you using? Tiger or Leopard? If you are using Tiger and the mac client doesn't work try installing Leopard on your computer (should work with powerPC although can make it slower) and try the mac client again.

Other than that there is nothing else to do then buying an Intel based mac. Goodluck.

Thanks for the tip - I do have Leopard, but where can I download the client still? Is it on the RS homepage, because I can still access that, but not the login page, where it offered me the client.

Thanks a ton guys - now I have a new problem though - it downloaded fine, but when I tried to open it, it loaded the application, and then gave me this - Sorry to keep bugging you guys, but I'd really like to not have to just stop RS right before LP, and a huge exp bonus week.

I searched it for you and found out that you are not the only one with that problem.

The bad thing about it is that no mod has replied to the topics people made on the RSOF:

So the only thing you can do for now is to wait and see if some mod replies or if something gets said in the Technical forum of the RSOF.

I've heard tell the issue is the new client only works with Lion.

A lot of java related programs can't do pre-lion AND lion due to the change in mac java between the two apparently (ergo pre-lion is apples own brand java intergrated lion onwards is normal java installed seperately like on pc [still intergrated into software update thingie])

 

Nothing verified though, but can't say I have issue and I run lion.

Alright - thanks. Do you know if they plan on fixing it so that it runs on previous generations?

As I said a lot of java based stuff simply cannot do both due to the changes in how its structured. So if that is indeed the problem it may well never work for tiger, leopard, snow leopard etc. again

Well if a large amount of people has problems with this and it is the case that the client only works for lion, jagex may make the client work also for older systems, but that can take a long time.
