Realised swtor, just as i was about to buy it, has monthly fees. So im buying skyrim instead which is really annoying as i wanted to get swtor. I dont understand why they make you buy the game and pay monthly its just stupid and i know it has lost them alot of potential customers..

They have monthly fees because they need money to pay employees to keep hundreds of servers maintained so that thousands of people can play online at the same while constantly updating the game.

This, pretty much. An MMO, like WoW for example, is constantly updated (about every 3 hours). With scheduled maintenance weekly on each of the servers.

That aside though. Gaming looks to be turning down such a path that eventually, paying for an MMO monthly, will fade. This is probably due to many games these days releasing patches for their games, and DLC on a regular basis. So keep an eye out for ToR going free to play down the road, which may or may not happen.

Pretty sure you mean 3 months, not hours.

And yes, it takes a lot more money to keep an MMO running, esepecially because MMO's also receive more updates, regularly.
