500 red chins per hour?

Last week I heard somebody say they can catch 500-550 red chins per hour at 98 hunter. Back when I was hunting, I maxed at around 380 w/ full larupia. Was there an update I just missed, or a new method that I don't know about? I can believe either one, I haven't hunted red chins in over 2 years :P

Well there's scentless potions and arctic bears that would increase your catch/hr a bit, but other than that it can be location and trap setup pattern, which haven't changed since the first day of hunter.

I was the one that made that claim and that was without using an arctic bear or scentless potions (it was before they came out). It requires using 6 traps to set them up faster, covering 2 spawn points and shooting chins with arrows if they wander away without getting trapped. I haven't hunted them since then so the case may be the opposite of what you're thinking and they could have been nerfed for all I know.

Ah that makes more sense (about the two spawns)... but 6 traps? This is new to me :S

You keep the spare trap in your inventory. When you pick up one trap you immediately click the 6th in your inventory and it will set up either 1.2 or .6 seconds faster than setting up the one you picked up. Spread over hundreds of catches, that's a lot of time saved.

Assuming that the mechanics for laying traps for chins is the same as jadinkos, (which I imagine applies to all traps that are laid) then bypassing the auto walk west saves a fair amount of time. Also, running under the trap before clicking to investigate it helps a lot too.. for me it was 33% more clicking for a 20% increase in xp. I keep ~5 extra traps in my inventory for the reason that Quy mentioned in addition to losing some from stupid randoms
