help me prioritize goals

Diomedus

Recommended Posts

I am looking to eventually max my combat stats and complete the achievement diaries/tasks

I want to do slayer for melee because it seems to be a good way to go for xp, money, charms, avoiding boredom

I would like to get enough money for 95 prayer and 96 herblore, I don't know which I should do first.

For melee/slayer, I would like a reccommended equipment set for melee. Bandos chest and tassets? get a rapier? Should I get a fury? dragon claws? I do have full elite void and all the barrows sets except dharoks and akrise. I do have all the quests done so I have korsai's and soul wars cape.

for the tasks - money for 88/91 smithing is my main concern, the other stuff is just simply training.

so, which goals should come first? money? equipment? skills?

I can make around 1 mil an hour, plus dailys and herb farming bring in 3-ish mil a day.

First priority for slayer is a rapier. Also, do you have enough cash to buy large quantities of cannonballs? Without a cannon, slayer will be extremely slow. My advice would be to do a mix of money making and dungeoneering until you have a rapier and enough cash to buy a decent amount of cannonballs. This method will mean you lose money slaying, but it'll be far faster slayer xp. Also, I'd probably make the cash for 95 prayer before starting slayer in your situation, as turmoil makes a big difference.

but what about decent melee equipment, like bandos armor? should my priorities be get 95 prayer, rapier, and then bandos armor?

Since you also want taskmaster, I would say: skill while farming for money (torstol with juju & scroll of life) and do dailies. Also do triple charms. Keep this up until you can afford 95 prayer. Then move on to dungeoneering and get a chaotic rapier (turmoil helps dungeoneering a lot). Once you have turmoil and rapier, slay.

[hide=Slayer]The base slayer gear is as follows (alternatives in brackets):

  • [For all slayer monsters except those mentioned under other weapons] Chaotic rapier (whip)
  • Bandos body + legs (Verac's skirt with either fighter torso or proselyte top)
  • [Depending on prayer/accuracy needs] Fire cape/Soul Wars cape/Ardougne cloak 3
  • Barrows gloves (your best rfd gloves, at least rune)
  • Steadfast/Dragon boots (rune boots)
  • Amulet of fury (glory)
  • Dragon defender (rune defender)
  • Berserker ring (i)/ferocious ring if slaying in Kuradal's Dungeon (berserker ring, warrior ring)
  • [Most important] Full slayer helmet.
  • [For magic defence on waterfiends/aquanites] Karil's top and elite void skirt (black dragonhide body and chaps)
  • [Crush attacks to use on waterfiends] Chaotic maul (Saradomin sword, Zamorakian spear)
  • [stab attacks for higher-levelled dragons, when not using rapier] Korasi's sword (Zamorakian spear, leaf-bladed sword)
  • Task-specific items such as mirror shields, antifire shields/potions, elemental shields, rock hammers, crystal chimes
  • Cannon (optional, up to personal preference)

Slayer setups generally emphasise strength bonus, which increases the average damage of each succesful hit (slayer monsters usually having rather low defence, hitting is not a problem). Secondly, prayer bonus is important to keep the cost of prayer potions down (as you slay with piety on, to increase the speed of your kills. This is cost-effective and highly recommended). As a rule of thumb, +10 prayer bonus or above is good, but don't overdo it (anything above +20 is a waste). Defence and accuracy bonus are usually not fretted over (any defence bonus over 200 will do; if you get hit too often you should be using a protection prayer). Dagganoth, black demon, black dragon, lesser demon, hellhound, bloodveld and spectre tasks should be cannoned, as it dramatically increases xp rates (although it costs a bit).

Some notes on gear: You'll want a fury and a berserker ring before you get bandos plate, and get that before tassets. You'll want accuracy bonus on higher-levelled dragons; if using stab attacks (which you should) you can use the Ardougne cloak 3 which provides you with +6 stab and +6 prayer bonus. Torso + sw cape and fire cape + proselyte are common cheap top/cape combinations; the former is better.

Some levels to get for slayer (in approximate order but I'm not sure on the summoning):

  • 70 prayer and King's Ransom - piety
  • 68 summoning - bunyip
  • 81 dungeoneering (you need 2 million xp, which takes you to level 80, but allowing some tokens for the scroll of life) - rapier
  • 89 herblore (85 with a +4 stew boost) - extreme potions, superantifires
  • 95 prayer - turmoil and soul split
  • 88 summoning - unicorn
  • 96 herblore (91 with a +5 stew boost) - overload
  • 99 summoning - steel titan

I'm sure I missed something but this is most of it.[/hide]

While slaying and dungeoneering, keep farming herbs & doing dailies/weeklies for gp and xp. Buy herblore levels and summoning levels. After you get extremes, start investing in gear: fury and berserker ring first, Bandos second. Once you (nearly) max combat through slayer, you should have a decent summoning level as well, allowing you to boss hunt for the remaining gp to get 99 summoning, overloads and taskmaster buyable levels.

I would seriously recommend unicorn and at the very least extremes. These'll help you enormously with slayer speed and alike. Personally, having prioritised herblore over summoning and feeling it to be somewhat of a mistake, with H/S/P I'd go:-

88 Sum > 88 Herb > 95 Prayer (not too far off atm) > 96 Herb (although with 92 you can stew to overload, so you decide how far based on your love/hate of stews) > 96 Summ (long term).

That said, that is my stance, given how useful I have found unicorn and turmoil since getting them, having gotten very high herblore beforehand.

Apart from that being different, listen to Q.

It won't be good profit but the rest is right on.

I would like to get enough money for 95 prayer and 96 herblore, I don't know which I should do first.

Prayer, provides a much larger benefit in soul split and dungeoneering. Herblore will get you overloads for dg for the first 5 min of the dungeon (unless they patched it and I missed it) but soul split and turm makes your survivability way higher and thus you get your rapier/dg levels faster. On top of that soul split means when you do slay you can use a BoB or combat familiar instead of a healing familiar.

Sell all the barrows sets except for karils top and bottom. For other gear your priority should be Full Slayer Helm>Dragon Boots>Rapier>Fire Cape>Berserker Ring>Fury>Bandos Chest>Bandos Tassets. After that claws. If at any point selling any of the above gear in reverse order that I listed it will net you the cash you need for 95 prayer or 96 herblore sell it and buy the levels.

for the tasks - money for 88/91 smithing is my main concern, the other stuff is just simply training.

Superheat gold ore with guants. When you do this depends on how much of a priority it is for you to finish task master vs max combat. I personally would get this after max combat so your money making potential is at a max.

so, which goals should come first? money? equipment? skills?

It will alternate. First work on skills (farming herbs and doing dailies while dging for a rapier/buying turmoil) then work on combat (slayer) while still farming herbs and doing dailies for cash. Use that cash on equipment until your cashpile+equipment worth can get you one of your skill goals for herb/prayer/summoning. Once you've maxed combat/prayer/herb/summ I wouldn't sell gear anymore, but focus on gaining cash on top of it to train other skills.

I can make around 1 mil an hour, plus dailys and herb farming bring in 3-ish mil a day.

Do you also do MTK? Besides that it sounds good.

i have 92 prayer already and i just purchased 95 prayer in bones. Once I get 95 prayer I'll do dungeoneering. I already have a full slayer helm and dragon boots. I do MTK. The claws are mainly for the Dominion Tower, it's a low priority, which reflects your advice.

EDIT: I probably don't need to keep twelve sets of full rune, but thanks treasure trails.

dont bother with summoning til 96

unicorn is pretty much useless for slayer

Combat familiars are useful for multi tasks though, and you need summoning levels for tasks. The key levels, I'd say, are 74 for granite lobs, 78 for ents (close to titans in combat and extra profit from farming stuff), 79 for titans, 80 for Fally tasks, 83 for lava titans, 89 for geyser titans, 92 for wolpertingers, 93 for Ardougne tasks, 95 for iron titans and Karamja tasks, 96 for pack yaks, and 99 for steel titans. So get those levels when you have the charms for them and don't worry too much about the levels in between.

Don't forget to run herbs while dging.
