Anonymous
What gear do you guys recommend for killing glacors the most efficiently? I have 99 Summoning, but I'll be using a unicorn due to the fact that a steel titan requires too much attention for it to be enjoyable, in my opinion. I'm not sure whether to use elite void or Ahrim's, dragon or infinity boots, stuff like that. I have an arcane spirit shield, arcane stream necklace, a rapier, Ardougne cloak 4, etc., however I don't have a surgebox. Are those worth getting for glacors? I've heard a lot of people prefer them for glacors - why is that? I'm currently using this safespot: http://s17.postimage.org/m1vh5s7v3/glacors_safespot.png What's the best safespot for easy luring? Thank you. :)
muggiwhplar
You'll want to get a surgebox because not only does it save you on inventory space, it also gives you a much better damage boost than any other off-hand mage item. Basically when I was learning the ropes of Glacors, I wore the following: Neitz Helm (for defense on Glacytes, prayer bonus, and no negative magic att)Akrisae Top (great prayer bonus; one less thing to keep track of)Akrisae bottoms (same as top)Infinity boots (I didn't have ragefires)Staff of light (I didn't have a chaotic staff, which would be better)Arcane streamBarrows glovesRing of wealth or mage-boosting ringSoul wars cape (prayer)... God cape or ardy cape would be good too, depending on how much prayer you think you need.Surgebox I brought a unicorn stallion till I was capable of surviving on soul split alone. Basically you'll use soul split at all times except for when the glacytes are out; you should be able to get to full (or nearly full) hp before they spawn every time. For killing the glacytes, I'd use a polypore staff cuz it's a lot simpler than rapier and a lot cheaper than storm of arma. Here's the progression of my Glacor-hunting... each step resulted in more kills/hr. It's also more fun w/ the titan imo.1) High defense/prayer gear; unicorn; safespots [i used the same safespot that you're using]2) High defense/prayer gear; unicorn; no safespots3) High defense/prayer gear; titan; no safespots4) Battle robes; titan; no safespots I've been using battle robes lately just cuz I've got a shit ton of fog tokens, the prices of fire surges has gone way up recently, and I don't have a chaotic staff. Using polypore on the glacytes apparently results in the same kills/hr as using a rapier, so might as well use poly since it's easier. If you can afford it, you'll get an extra 5 kills/hr or so using storm of arma.
Anonymous
Thanks for your reply. I am now considering getting a surgebox and selling my arcane spirit shield. I've tried using the polypore staff, and it didn't really deal much damage, in my opinion. Have you ever tried using void?
muggiwhplar
I own a set of void mage but i never use it since from what ive heard, it sucks. For the poly on glacytes, make sure youre luring the enduring very far away from the glacor. Its not unusual to hit 500s w poly on them. Its actually easier with the titan since because it is killing the sapping for you while you kill the enduring, youre spending less time being attacked and therefore losing a lot less hp and prayer. Anonymous
So it helps if the enduring one is further away from the glacor? That's strange..
muggiwhplar
Yes-- the distance the enduring is from the glacor is very strongly correlated with how much damage you do to it
muggiwhplar
As soon as the glacytes spawn:(w/o titan)1. Equip polypore and disable autocast2. Attack and kill sapping3. Attack enduring and get as far away from the glacor as possible without it moving4. Kill enduring (the further it is from the glacor, the weaker it is)5. Kill unstable (w/ titan)1. Attack enduring (w/ fire surge)2. Right-click summon icon, tell titan to attack sapping3. Left-click summon icon, tell titan to spec4. Equip poly, disable autocast, attack enduring while running away5. Keep telling titan to spec for every attack 6. Kill sapping if you kill the enduring before titan kills sapping7. Kill unstable after other glacytes are dead I think its actually more efficient to have "attack" as the left-click command, but i right click attack anyways. DyingSilent
Contrary to popular belief, Void Mage is actually pretty good. Definitely get a Surgebox. If you use a Unicorn, you shouldn't need to use a safe spot. Not praying melee on the Glacytes ends up bringing you down about 200 lp at most, unless you get hit by Unstable's special. I use a Steel Titan without luring right now, and surviving off Soul Split is pretty easy. But you're right, a Steel Titan adds a lot of apm, but brings much faster kills. If you're using PPS or SoA for Glacytes, go for max mage gear (Seer's (i), Ragefires, Arcane Stream). Ardy Cloak 3/4 is a pretty good cape because it gives mage and prayer bonus, and doesn't disappear when you die. As mentioned before, the farther away Enduring is from the main Glacor, the more damage you will hit on it. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask :) Merry Christmas 2461/2496 Total, 35 levels to CompletionistSunstriker: Path to Completionist Cape
Kimberly
Contrary to popular belief, Void Mage is actually pretty good. It's not an issue of 'popular belief', but from my understanding, the actual values of damage + needless extra switch. The calculations were done here. Void is good enough to still get a decent amount of kph and if you're completely broke, but the TC is asking what equipment is best to use. Holding that AHappySeeker's calculations were correct, ahrims/neit/fire cape/ddef/barrows gloves/etc is better. Personally I'd consider it easier because there's less stuff to have to worry about switching.
DyingSilent
I don't believe Void Mage should be used only if "you're completely broke." Also, if you're using a PPS/SoA for Glacytes, the extra switch argument is moot. I don't know why Seeker was so opposed to Void Mage. It's been noted before that nobody is sure exactly how Void Mage works even on Xp-Waste, so I doubt Seeker's calculations are accurate. I get 55 Kills/Hour in Void Mage, and that's with looting. The only way I would upgrade from Void Mage is with full Virtus. Also with Ahrim's, you have to worry about degrades, having a spare set if you die, etc. 2461/2496 Total, 35 levels to CompletionistSunstriker: Path to Completionist Cape
Hedgehog
Void mage multiplies effective attack by 1.1 iirc. Its not a mod to max att roll like slayer helms and salves and specs which is why they stack.
Anonymous
I tried going for decent mage bonus, some prayer and using polypore staff for the glacytes whilst luring the enduring one away, and that working really well. It's only one switch and it enables me to be far away and not having to attack the enduring one instantly, making it less of a straint. Does anyone have any statistics on kills p/h with polypore compared to rapier? Thank you. =)

Anonymous
I've decided to continue using PPS because of the ease of use and because I don't have to use overloads as I'm only using magic. Should I get a celestial surgebox and sell my arcane spirit shield?
Quyneax
You should get csb and use it at glacors, but I don't know what you'd otherwise do with your arcane so I can't comment on selling. It's still great at tds. DyingSilent
Yes, absolutely get a surgebox. Every 5th hit adds 50% more damage at glacors rather than 25% more damage that a surgebox usually does everywhere else. 2461/2496 Total, 35 levels to CompletionistSunstriker: Path to Completionist Cape
