Trouble with Vanstrom

For whatever ungodly reason I keep having trouble with Vanstrom. Its not that i can't dodge his attacks, its just that I seem to be lagging alot so the game decided (EH WHATEVER ASSUME IT HIT HIM) Literally I was clicking away from that blood move (where he ports you, then throws blood and melees) and i was still taking it.

 

What is my best option to kill him. Got full barrows sets for each combat style.

 

Also, is it true if you familiar looks at him you take damage, if so what is a way to prevent that.

Try using a world with low ping, might justbe the delay from clicking to actually moving gives it enough time to hit you

I used the Pole-Arm with mage defense gear and prayed melee, magic soak helps a bit with the part where he flies around dropping blood (bombs?)

I didn't actually use a famil, praying melee stops most of his damage, you could probably get away with using brews restores with no famil, the main difficultly is not getting hit by one of his high hitting attacks, this being the thing that normally got me killed

I've done the fight on a few accounts and I was never able to dodge the darkness attack for some reason (looking away while standing behind a pillar with no familiar didn't work either), so I usually just tanked it and got ready to brew every time he called out the attack. Bring along a tort filled with brews and super restores (3 brews : 1 sup restore ratio); since you don't have ovls or SS, you should be wary about brewing. If you can afford it, try to buy a set of ganodermic (if not, use Karil's). It helps a lot with soaking up his mage attacks (try to dodge the blood blots attack though, because the damage from that accumulates very quickly). Use polearm the entire time; you can still melee him while he's airborne. Try to keep your HP above 700 at all times and bring an enhanced excalibur if you have one.

What computer do you have?

 

Ok, about the Darkness attack: "Darkness: Vanstrom will charge up in the middle of the room and unleash a powerful attack. Move your camera angle away from him to avoid taking damage." (From tip.it's quest guide). You have to move your camera angle away from him.

 

Also, you should use Bandos on him, if you can't afford them I'm sure you have a friend who could lend them to you, don't worry about dying with them as you can get back to your grave within 10 seconds as you keep the Medallion and the Disguise automatically

 

I don't know what your tactic was when Vanstrom threw the blood bombs, but I personally ran around the room. Even when you walk you could get through the whole special attack without getting hit by the blood bombs.

 

And use Protect/Deflect from Mage.

trick with blood bombs is to simply keep walking.. Doesn't matter the distance with him, as long as you don't stand more than 1 game tick at the same square... So attack him and immediatelly move.. This is why I prefer melee over crossbows as with crossbows there's the animation delay.
