So i'm looking at getting a new computer next month that will be able to handle my needs as my current macbook is getting rather outdated and slow.

My budget is £1100, and i'm looking at pre building one on this site: http://www.computerplanet.co.uk

I'm going to be upgrading the CPU cooling fan, Memory to 16gb of "G.Skill Ripjaws X", and also adding another 1tb hard drive and a 120gb SSD to use as a boot drive/store whatever game i'm playing the most, But wont be adding any of them for about 2 or 3 months after i buy the computer due to lack of money.

This computer will be for university work i have coming that requires a lot of video & photo editing, and gaming, i would also like to be able to do live streams of whatever i'm playing and also record my own videos.

Games i'm looking at playing(in order of priority: Star War: The Old Republic, Guild Wars 2, Phantasy Star Online 2,Final Fantasy 14, Skyrim & Portal 2.

Computer Case - NZXT Lexa S

CPU - Intel Core i7 960 D0 (4 x 3.20GHz) 8 MB

CPU Heatsink - Intel Advanced Heatsink & Fan - Low Noise

Memory - Corsair 6GB (3x2GB) XMS3 1600MHz - Lifetime Warranty (DDR3)

Graphics Card - 1GB MSI GTX 560 Ti Twin Frozr II/OC, 40nm, 4200MHz GDDR5, GPU 880MHz, Shader 1760MHz, 384 Cores

Motherboard - Asus Sabertooth TUF (Intel X58)

Sound Card - Motherboard Integrated HD Sound

Networking - Edimax Wireless LAN 300Mbps (PCI-E)

Power Supply - Corsair 850W (CMPSU-850TX)

Hard Drive #1 - 500 GB SATA-II HDD 7200 16MB (FREE UPGRADE TO 750GB ORDER BEFORE 11:59 PM ON 22-01-12)

Optical Drive #1 - Samsung 24x DVD Re-Writer/Reader /- RW- Black - Lightscribe (SATA)

Operating System #1 - Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64 BIT (Genuine DVD & COA Included)

Will be running 2 24" lcd screens.

System Total Ex Vat: £904.92

Vat: £180.98

Grand Total Inc Vat: £1,085.91

I in no way want to spend any less then what my budget is, i'm a techy nerd and like to have fancy stuff, so no "You could build one for x amount cheaper" unless its the same specs from a diff site or something.<3

1- Get a z68 motherboard

2- I would recommend a Intel i7-2600k processor. That things supposed to be beast for photo editing/video rendering and can be overclocked to insane speeds.

3- Cooler Master HAF 912 or 922 would be better choices for cases. Very nicely designed cases with plenty of room for cable management and after-market CPU cooling.

Other than that, decent build. The MSI GTX560ti is a great choice. That's what I have in my system and I've never seen it hit temperatures higher than 50C, even when it was 30C in my room.

The Z68 MOBO comes with onboard sound which is pretty high def. I'd drop the Sound Card.

Instead of getting the WLAN Card, just buy a Wireless N Adapter.

If you do decide to go with the i7-2600k/2700k, I recommend the Hyper 212 EVO cooler.

Really? Cause as I recall it was you who was the one cussing me at base. Also, re-read what you just said: one 15 second delay (which is an exaggeration to begin with) ruins floor times? You are beyond ridiculous.

Don't buy an i7 960, you're buying into a dead socket.

Here's something I quickly specced up:

in485v.png

  •
  • i7 2600k for hyperthreading and overclocking.
  • 560Ti with 2GB VRAM, could fit it into budget and the VRAM may be needed depending on your resolution and the amount of textures you game with.
  • Asus board with all the Z68 socket features, PCI 3.0 ready, 8x SLI slots for upgrade paths.
  • 750W modular PSU, more than enough and will cover you for SLI in the future.
  • 16GB of the RAM you wanted.
  • Good case with cable management, airflow, etc...
  • Enclosed loop water cooler for no height problems with your RAM.

Products from here.

-Edit-

Swap the PSU for this.

It could have, but it is next to impossible because it also could have been caused by the flying spaghetti monster, or one of the other infinite number of deity possibilities.

For Gaming, an i7-2600k is not worth the $100. Very few games utilize hyperthreading.

Then an i5 2500k will still outperform the i7 960 for a similar price iirc. Even if games don't take advantage of the hyperthreading, as you say, from my own and my friend's experience it still outperforms the processors without the hyperthreading.

But the i7-2600k's hyperthreading is better for video and photo editing, which is what he's looking for too.

I agree, but from the post before Askthedude's one, it almost seems like he's going for a gaming computer rather than a computer for editing.

Thanks everyone, the i7 2600k seems like a much better CPU for what i will be doing, so i'll be switching to that.

I will also be switching the Motherboard to a z68 as suggested above. Can't wait to finally be able to do everything i want to! :D

Oops, didn't see he wanted to do heavy video editing. My bad.

So, Kaida is the real version of every fictional science-badass? That explains a lot, actually...

Just one line in that configuration that I really don't like. I think everyone can figure out which line it is. Otherwise seems like a really impressive build.

So I've noticed this thread's regulars all follow similar trends.

RPG is constantly dealing with psycho exes.

Muggi reminds us of the joys of polygamy.

Saq is totally oblivious to how much chicks dig him.

I strike out every other week.

Kalphite wages a war against the friend zone.

Randox pretty much stays rational.

Nah, not that. 560TI is in any configuration a good buy.

Come on man, maybe it is cause I come from Eastern Europe and I have the mentality of why pay when you can have for free without any legal trouble.

We don't post or encourage illegal stuff here. Windows 7 is in the list but it's up to the person to buy it or not. The OS is pretty much the only thing that I will willfully pay for when I can have it for free. Or other alternatives, but games work best in Windows, not any Linux distros.

This, i also would rather not have an illegal copy.

and what OcUK GPU?

I've seen nothing but good things about the 560 ti, EVGA is just the brand i'm going with.

I admit that official Win7 is better than a freely downloaded one, but simply at least in my country downloading anthing for personal use is allowed. And still, even if you really do want a proper one, can't you speak to your computer/IT teacher or someone and haggle an educational copy? Specially if you use the computer for curricular activities. They come freakishly cheap...

I agree on the eduactional copy, I'm currently running Win 7 Enterprise on my laptop, for free, through college. I did have to sign an agreement though, but totally worth it, especially when home premium came for $30 for anyone with a student email account, when it came out.

For someone building a PC, and extra $100 for an OS is nothing.

I hope you're kidding me. Are you trying to say that a OcUK GPU is made with the same materials, the same quality, as a MSI or EVGA GPU? You're wrong on so many levels.

The main chip still comes from Nvidia, so I wouldn't really be that worried. Well, the cooler might give up faster, but it can be replaced with whatever you like with a little tinkering. Only problems might be the overclocking availability and heat resistance...

I'm not seeing where you're getting OcUK from?

Is what is listed on his final build.
