Stacking Invisible and Visible boosts?

Do invisible and visible skill boosts stack?

The example I was specifically wondering about is if the visible level boost from a fishing boost and invisible boost from summons like the Ibis both boost to make me fish faster. I know only the fishing potion would help me catch something like a shark at level 73 fishing, but do the two boosts stack for faster fishing?

Thanks!

I believe that the two boosts would stack, so the fishing potion would boost you up and be able to catch sharks, and the Ibis summon fish boost would also have a boost as well, so

73 +3 from fishing potion + 3 from ibis

You would have a potted 76 visible but fishing at 79 not visible, and it would slowly decrease as the potions effect wears off so you will only be able to fish sharks until the first potion decrease to 75(78 invis) even though you have a combined fish boost to 78, the visible is what counts when doing skill related content (i.e. Fishing sharks at 76).

I always thought invisibles and visible don't stack because of how they work on two different variables.

Namely visible boosts your CURRENT level which dictates what tasks you can and cannot do.

Invisible boosts your BASE level which dictates your fishing/cutting/catching etc. rates.

These terms being where your stats are current/base. Eg 75/80 attack or 99/99 fishing

Therefore if you have 70 fishing.

Visible boost would make you go to 73/70 (+3 fishing pot), allowing you to fish stuff higher than your base level. (Result being you are 73/70 fishing)

Invisible would make you have the speed of 73 (+3 ibis), increasing your catch rate. (Result being you are 70/70(+3) fishing; meaning even though you can't see it its effectively 70/73)

Combined result would be 73/70(+3) fishing

I think they would stack. Mainly based on the observation that combat potions stack with prayers, salve amulet etc.

An invisible boost, say to fishing from an Ibis, doesn't allow you to catch better fish at all. All the boost does is allow you to fish at the rate you would have if your base level was higher by that amount.

For the purposes of speed, it might stack though. I think the ibis boosts by 3, and a fishing potion is the same, so using both might allow you to fish as if your 6 levels higher, but I don't know if it would work that way. It would depend on if the invisible boost is adding 3 to the base level strait, or if its setting the base level to current level + 3.

The only exception I can think of is the crystal saw, which has an invisible boost that is applied to your current level, and not your base level. In this case, it can be stacked with various construction teas, and with spicy stew. So yes, it can go both ways if you have an invisible boost that acts on the current level, but I believe that all the invisible boosts from summoning familiars work on the base level instead. At least the fishing ones do.

The flaw I see in this comparison is pretty much all of the prayers etc do not actually boost your stats, they boost other variables within the combat formula such as accuracy etc.

Not correct. In the max hit formula, prayer acts as a multiplier to your level, not your max hit. Which means the +8 base gets added after, not before the prayer.

Those are multipliers tho. We know multipliers stack. But I'd imagine visible vs invisible boosts would have entirely different code then combat.

No

Invisible boosts don't allow you to do things of a higher level.
