Ranged wep for slayer (99 range 1 def)

I have 50 slayer 99 range 1 def. Currently using zaryte with range pots, but it hits a bit slow. I haven't played in about a year. Is msb still good? I think hunter's crossbow was pretty decent too. Anything better for pures?

I have very little experience with the ranged skill so keeping that in mind alternatives for range imo are quite limited. A crossbow (either chaotic or rune) with broad bolts/rune is probably effective as a primary weapon. Either way though even a crossbow is on the slower side, I am not quite sure if it is better than zaryte (have never owned one). I have heard that rune knives are decent on monsters with low defence, so you can look into those.

For the majority of Slayer Tasks, a Zaryte Bow/Crossbow is a bit overkill on the accuracy side, and the slow speed really hurts. Use Rune Knives on the majority of your tasks. If wearing max range bonus, potting range in some way (preferably overloading), and praying to increase range (preferably Rigour) your DPS will be much improved on things with low defence (which encompasses most slayer monsters).

You can't use void so that's one worry less.

 

With ranging amulet, ranger's boots, focus sight, archer's (i), regen brace, black d'hide chaps, accumulator, rune knives (dragon darts are good too) and unholy book you have 87 ranged attack. If you're not hitting well, Karil's crossbow is great (144 ranged attack). Even with cheaper gear, 130+ ranged attack with Karil's should be very easy, and that's really quite enough for most monsters. You should probably skip or mage metal dragons. The Zaryte bow is a cheap alternative and when you are cannoning the kph increase from Karil's might not be worth the cost.

I range slayed for a bit on my 1 def pure, and i found that the best method really was darts/knives while wearing max range gear + a monk robe top, praying eagle eye and protection prayers on every task. And if i needed a boost in accuracy, i would switch to a MSB with rune arrows. And if you need even more accuracy, a crossbow(Or Z bow in your case, though i'd recommend you sell it for knives/etc if you're short on cash).
