Nice equation. I think you mean q is 1-p, not p-1 (it's positive right?). If it's 1-p then the p*(1+q+...+q^n) thing simplifies to -q^(n+1) +1. so q is actually just the (n+1)th root of (1-disease rate). for n=3 and disease rate = .1099, p=2.87%

We did use q=1-p

I think you are confusing that with f'(p) which did simplify to (p-1)3

the 1+q+q^2+q^3 part is (q^4-1)/(q-1). (it's a geometric series..)

q-1=1-p-1= -p. so p(1+q+q^2+q^3) = p* (q^4-1)/-p = -q^4 + 1.

which means (1-rate)^(1/4) = q. see?

I don't think you need to take the derivative/use newton's method.

I still dont see where we used p-1 instead of 1-p. Or what is wrong with our method.

This blog is full of randomness and I approve.

btw - your first post has to be the funniest I've ever seen in a blog. Especially the recent luvul ups pic. And I though my crappy comp gave bad graphics.

So, Kaida is the real version of every fictional science-badass? That explains a lot, actually...

I didn't understand the whole post. I was pointing out that it's actually simple to solve for those polynomials' roots and so you don't need to approximate them with newton's method.

The first picture said "where q = p - 1", that is where i saw it. I don't think you used it, but it does matter which it is. If it's q=p-1 then the polynomial doesn't simplify nicely.

I liked that pokemon. Because it was underloved and unique in some way that I forget.

It is unique because it is mentally retarded. So retarded, that it is the only thing that can perfectly check Arceus in the ubers metagame.

However, that thing certainly is not underloved because he makes it rain.

I remember quag in gen IV was a pretty solid bulky water in UU battles, used to be able to wall the shit out of everything with him o

The funny thing is, I'll probably still win.

Also, 91 slayer. 92 range/97 str tomorrow.

92 range. Sad.
