July 3, 201214 yr I support JDRF (the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation). I do the Walk to Cure Diabetes; this will be my tenth year raising funds and I have probably raised around $11,000 to date. My local walk raises about $420,000 a year and 80% (possibly a bit more) goes directly to supporting diabetes research and development of new treatments and possibly a cure. July 3, 201214 yr I had to stand around with a can and ask for donations once (some compulsory crap). I now donate a couple of coins to any can; it sucks to have people heckle/reject/diss you while you do something you don't want to.
July 6, 201214 yr I think I've done about 350 hours in the past year for the charity I voluntarily work for. Baring in mind our volunteers fill up posts on paid contracts, I dare say I've brought in a few hundred quid at least, even with the cost of putting me in uniform and training me.
