Unknown_Warrior
So, I've been wanting to kill these again since I returned but combat has changed drastically. Hedgehog
I haven't done much with tds since before soa, but here's my best attempt at a setup: Helm: NeitNecklace: Arcane stream/fury switchBody: Virtus>Ahrim/Bandos switchLegs: Same as aboveBoots: Dragon, I guessGloves: BarrowsWeapon: Staff of armadyl>Polypore/Maul>Cls>Rapier (Cls is probably easier to use since it's 1h. Also, don't buy it just for tds, it kinda sucks everywhere else. Just use a rapier)Shield: Arcane/Dragon defender If you can't afford an arcane, I say just mage with the defenderRing: Zerker I'm not sure about the inventory. You'll just have to experiment. You won't need much healing once you get good, so it'll pretty much be overloads and prayer potions. Tip: TDs won't change their style unless you pray against it, so when it melees, use soulsplit and just tank it.
Quyneax
Use the Tip.it guide, it's up-to-date :). @Hedge:Bandos switch isn't really worth it imo. Ragefire > dragon (+9 mage attack > +4 strength) though steads may be equal. SoA > pps but much harder to use, but cls/maul isn't better than rapier. Don't mage with defender, use mage's book switch. SS tanking is pretty useless too, ss flash is much safer. Hedgehog
You're right about the defender. Are you sure ragefire > dragon? I have no idea what their magic defense is like, but I'd assume it's low because demons are supposed to be weak to magic. I'd definitely recommend bandos. SS tanking>ss flashing. It doesn't make sense to bother with switching if you don't have to. I don't think anyone's ever actually found the 3 max def rolls of tds, but I think they're high enough to warrant maul/cls. Quyneax
Their mage def is not really low, over 50% accuracy but not as accurate as maxed rapier I think - don't forget you can't use a mage-boosting prayer because of turmoil. So I'm pretty sure on ragefires. Tassets aren't worth the switch imo, and bcp would be inferior to steads anyway (tassets inferior to ring/cape/bcp switch). +6 Strength is about 1 kill per hour by pure dps gain assuming perfect switches, but you can't bring 2 pray pots, cutting trip length down a bit. You have space for up to 22 potions + extra switches besides the core switches (fury/ddef/rapier/darklight) and scrolls + lantern. Giving up 2 spaces for switches basically cuts trip length by 5-10%. As for tanking versus flashing, tanking is crude and inconsistent. In Virtus, you can easily lose more health than you gain over the course of 10-15 seconds, which is annoying if you have to overload or a demon spawns or something. It also uses more prayer, making it more expensive and cutting trip length (20% higher average prayer drain!). As for rapier vs. cls, I've not tested this, but in my experience the highest kph has always been reported with rapier. Tds don't have that much defence, the reason mage doesn't hit so well has to do more with the lack of mage-boosting prayers (and no seer's (i)/god cape/virtus mask, that costs you 24 mage attack right there). Unknown_Warrior
I think both of you are (severely) overestimating my combat stats and monetary funds. I don't have the resources to nilly-willy buy Glacor boots / Mage books / SoA casts or, god forbid, any Nex armour. I have about 4M in funds I can work with. Hedgehog
Ya, we tend to do that. Void is the best then, with a pps and rapier switch.
Quyneax
Void benefits from many switches, so if you can, switch between deflector/Ahrim's top and defender/void top along with helmet, amulet and weapon. It's annoying as hell but +24 (or more) mage attack gain is great. JeRambo
If you're really not comfortable doing a hell of a lot of switching just stick to something simple like Dhide, HC, claws, fury, fc, archer(i), (or zerker(i) if u have glaivens instead of dboots), D boots, Neitz, Cls/Rapier/CM, whichever you have. I used that setup for as long as I remember with 3 ovl (4), 3 renewal (4), urn, lamp, scrolls, 10-12 prayer pots, emergency brew if need be, spare HC. Can get like 40-45 KPH this way still. Not really worth the time since claws are 1:250, but if you're looking for a decent amount of GP+Charms go for it. Good luck! "Night gathers, and now my watch begins. It shall not end until my death. I shall take no wife, hold no lands, father no children. I shall wear no crowns and win no glory. I shall live and die at my post. I am the sword in the darkness. I am the watcher on the walls. I am the shield that guards the realms of men. I pledge my life and honor to the Night's Watch, for this night and all the nights to come." "An imperfect man can do great deeds, and a great man imperfect ones.
