has anyone tried one of these since EoC update?

 

Runewiki says it has the same accuracy and speed as Polypore staff and SoL (although i don't understand the -3 damage stat) so wouldn't the GRS be better when charged with Fire Surge?

No, because Polypore Staff spell, given the cost of the Spores VS cost of airs at the moment, is cheaper (12 gp vs 80gp), and it is also more powerful than Fire Surge.

 

For general use, Polypore staff is superior, but for things like Glacors, GRS might be better.

 

Polypore and SoL are also immensely easier to get than GRS (both of the former only costs < 400k).

Don't you need 5 fire runes per cast for the Polypore strike ? (15k runes to charge the staff for 3 strikes) which makes the total cost for a strike 90+ ?

It is true you need runes for the charge which does augment the cost somewhat.

 

Plus there is the factor of it being better for kill speed to use water, earth and fire where appropriate which means polypore strike only has the 1 use there in terms of air surge replacement. Then of course ancient mage spells are better than surge spells (unless im mis-remembered something) so the real comparison would be gale barrage vs polypore strike for air spell.
