It was the most experted opinion I had available at the time, so I updated. Best to stick at 1.6 for the foreseeable future. There are currently no secure versions of Java, both 6u38 and 7u11 are exploitable. It is best to disable java and only enable it on specific sites when you need to. 2 You make it sound like running through a few level 87 monsters is hard which it really shouldn't be at your level.
