Which combat style for dungeoneering?

Featured Replies

Melee, ranged, or magic? Are they all equal, or would 1 be preferred?

Basic is 2h (maul, spear), blood neck and platebody.

Abilities are better for 2h and dw melee and dual wield magic (and dw ranged also beats 2h ranged), but since DW magic requires two binds, you'll probably want to go with maul, blood neck, plate, cstaff/ssb.

The advantage of magic and dual wield knives is that you free up the ammo bind for laws.

Most will likely say melee is better. Only exception would be if you have a different stat at a significantly higher level.

That being said, I personally range and I have a staff swap for those annoying 198 meleers I wouldn't hit much on otherwise (not sure how necessary the staff becomes with ssb). I like that I can kill most things from a distance, frag shot easily triples damage and I can run to different parts of the room without sacrificing damage.

So, just to be clear: 2h melee > dw melee > dw magic > 2h magic > dw ranged > 2h ranged

Because I was simply wondering for quite a few reasons:

The ring boost for ranged gives a 20% damage boost. The ring boost for melee gives 20% accuracy, and magic... not entirely sure.

Most of the time running through a dungeon, you'll be hit by magic/ranged. Using a ranged style would help you avoid getting bound by magicians more so than melee/magic.

Ranged also seems to have a basic ability which hits multiple targets, and a threshold for it.

But alright, I'll see if I can't get a blood necklace somewhere along the line for my primal maul.

It's not a 20% damage boost on the ring, it's a 20% level boost which is like 1% damage tops :P. I have ssb/2h and I can guarantee ranged is pretty bad on plenty of things, even with t10 ring. Also note that dw ranged is really just about the law rune bind, the performance in combat isn't better. I'm not sure how spell damage is used in dungeoneering atm, but dw mage is better than dw ranged if it works (if you get t99 damage, that is).

Armour wise, yes, ranged does have the defence advantage, but platebodies have less of a ranged attack penalty than leatherbodies have a melee penalty. You can pray mage to avoid mages.

Ah, well, than it makes ranged fairly useless it seems. I'll definitely stick with melee, and perhaps try to get a staff switching.

Thank you for your input!

Magic damage in dungeoneering is still capped at t80, so until jagex fixes it it's not really worth using. (867 damage with celesital wand and fire surge, while 1049 damage with primal dagger)

As the size of an explosion increases, the number of social situations it is incapabale of solving approaches zero.

Ensure you are not a social situation.

If you have 3 binds use best melee weapon, plate, bow, arrows.

4 binds add a hood

5 binds add a blood neck

:)
