SAA
Hey all, I'm an on-and-off type of player. This is my first time playing the new Runescape 3 EOC combat system (I've done some skilling). I'm a long time player (since late '04/early '05) and I'm trying to get back into combat for mainly PvM and Slayer (not concerned about PvP). Please excuse my barrage of questions: 1. How do I train attack/strength/defense? Do I have to use a slash weapon to train strength (i.e. a whip) and I will automatically gain strength XP?2. Which weapon changes should I be concerned with? Is a whip and a Dragon Defender still the way to go for the majority of slayer tasks?3. What's the big deal with these off-hand weapons? How does that work?4. Combat combos/attacks are very confusing to me... Is there a generic combo I should follow when doing basic combat XP grinding/slayer? For the record, I completed 100% of the combat tutorial, which seemed to slightly help me out. I really appreciate all answers, advice, and tips :) Cheers,SAA Have an Android phone? Sy_Accursed
1) In you 'powers' menu (f4 or click the 3 orb thingies) under the melee, mage and ranged tabs you can pick what xp you get and it applies for all weapons (within that style)2) Defender isn't any good, you want a 2h or dual wield setup3) Off-hand weapons is simple: It goes in place of the shield and gives more damage output. Dual wielding or 2h weapons is the way to go in 99% of situations4) For basic xp just toggle momentum on and afk like you used to. Other than that just play around with abilities and get a feel for them, only major rules are ultimates largely suck and you are better sticking with thresholds and you want ~5 basics on your bar for a good rotation to get up to your thresholds. Thanks for your response. So a whip dual-wielded with an off-hand whip would be a good option? What is the most common option nowadays? Regarding the rest of your suggestions, I will test them out :) Cheers,SAA Have an Android phone? Sy_Accursed
off-hand whip doesn't exist, enhanced excalibur is the equivalent. Whip is perfectly ok as a t70 slash weapon, but things aren't really as 'common' anymore as they have balanced within the tiers and made weaknesses matter more (til you get top end) so in lower tiers it varies a lot from user to user and on what you are fighting. In lower tiers (t70 weapons or lower really) weakness are worth following (arrow, thrown, bolt, slash, stab, crush, air, water, earth, fire) each weapon is only 1 style now so for example whip is only that good on slash weak things. PolarBearBlue
EDIT: Sy beat me too it. There is no such thing as an offhand whip. However, the Enhanced Excalibur fill that slot. It is a level 72 offhand whereas the whip is level 70 and vine whip level 80. What you would want are dual chaotic claws or a chaotic maul. Those who cannot afford t90 melee weapons but have the levels to use them use chaotics. You'd want claws over a maul. Both have enough accuracy to ignore specific melee weaknesses. However, the claw is marginally better because of the critical bonus it has, as well as the fact dual wielding has better abilities. That said, if you already have a maul do not worry about getting claws. Or tokens would be better spent on other dungeoneering items. As an added note, unless you have Drygores, you can't melee everything. So you'll need range and magic too. Quyneax
Basically, as weapons go:Use a tier 90 weapon, any works, use what you like. If that is not possible:Use a tier 80 weapon of the correct corner of the triangle - melee, ranged, magic. If that is not possible:Use a tier 75 weapon of the correct sub-style - stab/slash/crush, arrow/bolt, air/water/earth/fire. Tier 75 weapons are so cheap and easy to get, they should be no problem (this list assumes 90+ combat skills). Berserk is always the best ultimate to use (for melee). For ranged and magic, just ignore ults, they're not worth the bother.Alternate Slice with other abilities to build adrenaline fast: Slice > Havoc/Smash > Slice > Dismember > Slice > Sever > Slice > Havoc/Smash > Slice builds adrenaline fastest - note you don't need to build adrenaline fast if you're only going to use Slaughter, Assault and Destroy without ultimates.
