easiest to hardest skill to level up

Featured Replies

i made a list of all the skills in runescape based on how many players achieved level 99 in that skill. my reasoning is that if lots of people have lots of experience in a skill, then its an easy skill to level up. if you disagree, state why

here are the skills, in order of how many players are at lvl 99, as of today

strength: 3106

attack: 2892

hitpoints: 2653

fletching: 2079

defence: 1950

cooking: 1761

ranged: 1312

woodcutting: 729

magic: 633

fishing: 276

firemaking: 250

smithing: 199

thieving: 170

mining: 149

prayer: 52

crafting: 49

agility: 35

slayer: 29

runcerafting: 29

herblore: 27

farming: 17

as you can see, strength is the easiest skill to level, in fact all the melee combat skills have a large number of 99 players. from prayer to farming are clearly the hardest skills to level

any thoughts?

You can't put it like that since some skills came after another, slayer and faming is fairly new and runecrafting is the third newest...

I dont think that the melee skills are particually easy to train compared to others, its just that most players do those more then others.

Ppl prefer melee to other skills, its not that they're easier. Thanks for the data though.

My thoughts exactly.

Also, all member skills have less ppl doing them and so will have less at higher levels.

HP is earned only by doing other combat.

Slayer can only be earned by doing combat.

There are a few problems with your approach...

1) Some skills have been around for far longer than other skills.

That puts a big bias in favor of the older skills.

2) Some skills (like mining) are available to all players, Pay and Free alike.

(The number 2 miner is a free player)

Other skills are members only. According to Jagex, they have about 600k

members and about 5.4 million free players. So there is a big difference

in the number of players allowed to do the 6 members only skills

vs those allowed to do the other 15 skills.

3) All skills have a "potential" payoff for getting a high level.

Mining: runite ore. Fishing: Shark. Slayer: whips, etc.

But what about Agility, Firestarting, etc?

Players are more likely to work at a skill for the reward than they

would at another that has, essentially, no reward.

So, fewer players would get 99 because there's no "big payoff".

4) Saying "...strength is the easiest skill to level, ..." is just silly.

The large number of players with high strength is more an indication of

the fighting style taken by most PKers.

5) Some skills have a large difference in the amount of effort,

between members and free players, required to level that skill.

Look at Prayer and Runecrafting for example.

Those skills are much, much harder to raise for free players.

6) Some skills can be "bought" if a player has enough money.

Smithing is hard and slow if you mine the ore yourself

but is fairly easy if you have a large collection of bars.

So high smithing could be more of an indication of cash rather than difficulty.

If you really want to rate the skills by difficulty then go and see how much

exp you can earn per hour doing that skill as a member and then as a free player.

Then rate the skills according to that instead of the number of 99s.

also depending on ur willingness to part with ur gps while striving for 99s.. things like fletching, cooking, fm, smithing, rc, herblore are skills which can be "bought".. meaning u can spend gps to get materials to hasten the process...

i have friends who hate melee combat and likes to level skills like wc. rc fishing cooking.. etc..

i am the type who loves melee-ing.. though i have the passion for it.. i find it really tough to get my first 99 via melee..

OK, so it looks like you guys copied each other's papers when you both failed reading and comprehension. The fact that they can be bought doesn't make them any "easier" to do. Cooking (with the exception of meat and fish), crafting and herblore all require correct sequencing of items. You need to use X object with Y object then use Y object with Z and so on.

Now if, on the other hand, in your alternate reality "easier" means "quicker to obtain given limitless funding" you would be right.

siganizq4.gif

Ok I didn't read all the posts so I may be repeating something but here it goes.

Define easy, define hard, because in my eyes, herblaw certainly isn't a hard skill, it actually levels up quite fast, it just costs an arm and a leg if you want to get it up high. Farming is another skill like this (although I can't say for sure, I only started it 2 weeks ago), there is 4 tree patches and 4 fruit tree patches in which you can get 1.5k exp per tree per day even at a low farming level, so thats easily 15k exp a day (got to count the other things you grow), ok so 15k exp a day doesn't seem like much at all, it isn't... But as your level gets higher you can plant better trees, which... Theoretically, if you have the money shouldn't be all that HARD to do. Now.. With melee combat stats, you can't just buy your way into them, its ALL work, so I'd say that they are actually harder.

Crafting, Herblaw and Prayer, oh wait this is RS2.

I find farming far easier than herblore, and it is if you don't buy everything, most people think farming is hard mainly beacuse they're dumb enough to spend an hour sitting at one patch waiting for their potatoes too grow. If you did that in any other skill you would get no where.

Maybe some people just want to raise their combat skills more than others this doesnt mean theyre easier.
