WRITE FOR THE TIMES - SUBMIT A GUEST ARTICLE:

Remember, YOU can write an article for the Tip.It Times! You can apply to write full time, or just submit a "one-off" guest article any time you want! Our editors will work with you to ensure that your article is ready for publication. All guest articles can be submitted to @tripsis or any other Editorial Panel member. For more information, including details on how to apply full time, read this forum thread: http://forum.tip.it/topic/209138-how-to-write-for-the-tipit-times/

I'd like to remind people of the rules pertaining to Times threads:

[hide=Read these rules before posting in this thread]

Rampant flame wars have taken control of virtually every week's times discussion topics. The following guidelines must be followed when posting on this topic. Posts that ignore these guidelines will be removed.

1. You are invited and welcome to express like or dislike on articles and a particular author's writing style. It is not acceptable, however, to flame or personally insult an author. Posts that aren't anything but an attack will be removed from the topic.

2. Spelling and grammar errors can be reported to tripsis by PMing her and they will be fixed promptly. It is not necessary to post them on the discussion topic.

3. Off topic posts that do not discuss the content of that week's articles will be removed. This is not the place to discuss the direction of the times, how much you love or hate the times, etc. Off topic posts will be removed.

By keeping within these guidelines, Times discussion topics will mean more for the Panel and Administration than just a place for flame wars. Flame wars do not provide any useful feedback to the Times, which is mainly what we're aiming for with these topics: feedback.

This policy is effective as of now, November 17, 2010. Any posts prior to the creation of this policy may or may not be removed according to the new guidelines.

[hide=Submitting Crossword Puzzles]If you want to submit your own crossword puzzle, it's quite simple.

Simply provide a word list (about 10-20 words) with their corresponding clues. Then, message @The Floating Pen with the word list and it will eventually be published in the Tip.it Times![/hide]

When replying please make sure to clarify the article you are replying to! Thanks!

If you spot any typos or mistakes in an article then please PM them to @tripsis. :)

Enjoy the articles!

Article 1 I agree. The ge and not being able to buy what other players sold to the shops killed them off. I would like for them to get new life.

Article 2 I have been playing since 2007, and still enjoy the game. Of course there have been times when I log and only do daily changellenges or pop. The thing that keeps me going is the clan. I would say quests, but they are rare now a days it seems.

As somebody who is pretty bored with the game I connected a lot with the second article. I just don't get into the game as much and stick around for community reasons. I think this is understandable. I've grown up and the game has changed drastically. Also the part of the game which I find the most interesting, pvp clanning, is dead in Runescape 3 and I don't have enough time to train up a character on 07. The only thing I truly enjoy on Runescape are the quests.

I like talking to old friends from years back who log in once in awhile. In December one of my old friends from as far back as 2005 came on and we had a nice discussion. In November I had a similar discussion as well with another old friend. Our fading interests in the game are the only thing that connects us, and when that interest is gone our friendship will be gone forever. Sad to think about.

I have to agree there is almost no reason to use shops of almost any sort in RS with the exceptions being some Dragon weapons and daily moneymaking runs. The old standard the Dragon Dagger sells under its high alch price on the GE but that is because of supply end issues (on rare drop table) but you won't find many dragon weapons that you can make a profit on by carrying them from a vendor to the GE.

I like the solutions presented in the article and would like to suggest another. Shop stocks should be split so that any of an item you sell after it has its base stock filled under personal stocks the remainder gets sent to a public stock a bit cheaper than the usual selling price. This will retain the personal stock that is always available but let others access the other players sales. Lets take the example of selling bronze pickaxes to bob in Lumbridge (why bother) if you took the free sample and it hasn't restocked the first one you sell will not give you any money and after that you can sell them to him at high alch price (this is a theoretical example) and those will remain in your personal stock until a restock cycle reduces the stack there by one. My proposal is to allow any sales above his full normal stock to be visible to the public at a slightly reduced price. General stores will sell at the full store price and buy for less (low alch) with stocks solely provided buy players other than their initial "junk" ( I have to agree with that) and show the excess junk that is sold as well.
