Trying to work out realistic chinning rate/costs

Recommended Posts

Wear void and max range bonus gear, holy wrench, 4 range pots, 20 pray pots, 1 super antipoison, teletab, greegree

65-99 range with red chins you're going to average something around 210xp per chin, using eagle eye at all times. (Way worse at 65, way better at 99. Averages, yo.)

Medium fuse is actually 1 tick faster than Short fuse. Because Jagex. A lot of players actually get 99 range and never even figure this out, a bunch of guides are out there advising people to use short fuse... (Sure it saves you a few gp, it's clearly horrible and most are simply unaware though)

With medium fuse, you throw 2000 chins an hour, insane.

Expect to do about 34 trips. You'll use around 60k chins (45m), 680 prayer potions (7m) and 136 range pots (560k)... Total cost being almost 52.5m.

"52.5m!? WTF THAT'S A LOT OF MONEY BRO" Yeah it is. But you're doing this in about 40 hours (lots of time used for banking and setting up.) Vs about 155 hours training with something like iron knives or broad bolts.

So... you pay 52.5m for about 115 hours of time. So you're paying about 456k per hour saved, another way to look at it is, you need to make 456k/hour to make chins efficient to do. (And your money making method most certainly gives some useful bonus XP)

All my numbers are extremely rough estimates, I'm basically throwing this at you hoping for you to pick it apart and explain what you believe to be incorrect and what the correct number is.

Numbers based roughly on this thread as well as previous personal experience chinning 99 range:

http://[Use Quick Find Code]/[Please Use QuickFind Code]?321,322,469,65229597,goto,1

(I could not find much data on black chins at all really. 30 range strength vs 15 range strength. Max hit of 25 vs 21 (at 99 range). Hits 10 targets instead of 9. +10 range accuracy bonus. 1k ea vs 750 ea for reds. On paper they sound like they're probably worth using, yet again costing more in total, but saving more time and therefore economically efficient if you can make decent money.)

Not so sure blacks hitting 10 targets is actually useful, given how monkey skeletons spawn in OSRS. The 20% extra ranged damage is definitely appealing, though.

I'm planning on bursting/barraging to 99 mage first since it's more useful and I imagine chins will drop back down to a realistic price eventually, either via bots or via a repolling of black chin grieving. Sold all my chins for runes >_>

I've got a bunch of math and info/calculations on my osrs spreadsheet, i'll have to copy and paste some of it here later

... can I see the information you have for magic? I was planning to do humidify to 99, but if burst is decent enough gp/xp it'd probably be a much better afk choice

Well so far the only info I have for ice burst was at 79 magic at ape atoll...

153 xp per ice burst

157.4k xp/hr

15% magic prayer

mystic robes, fury, imbued seers, infinity boots, god cape, god mitre, barrows gloves, ancient staff, zammy book

Around 6gp/xp

imbued salve (e) would probably boost things slightly.

I've also been considering bursting mage, 6gp/xp is a lot cheaper than I expected, especially with that setup.

I can't imagine the magic 15% prayer being worth using, not only for the prayer pot cost, but mostly for the shortened trips.

Surely occult necklace would be way better than fury and salve? It may actually be worth manually casting with Staff of the Dead for the damage + rune saving.

here's a pic of the chinning/bursting section of my spreadsheet.

T6KGKse.png

Note that the figures change depending on what I input. The rates will change if I put in 99 range instead of 77, for example. The costs also change depending on the prices i input. Most of the formulas were taken from this old guide.

As far as maging goes, occult necklace gives +10% whereas salve gives +20%. Salve gives +1 more prayer than occult, but 12 less magic attack. But magic attack isn't that important anyways. Then again, neither is magic damage since when it comes to multi-target attacks, the only the target you're focusing gets bonus damage; not all 10 targets.

I'm 60 attack so I can't use the staff of the dead, though I'd use it over ancient staff if given the option. I'm probably going to be using a smoke staff and smoke barraging once I get the required mage level.

If I had the time/willpower to do another test run I'd see what the difference is between 15% magic prayer and no magic prayer. But given the possibility of disconnecting and losing all of my shit, I'm not really interested in prolonging trip times more than necessary :P

Salve ammy damage only applies to 1 target, however the occult neckalce does deal the extra damage to all targets. (I have no idea how or why it's calculated that way)

I was kinda lowballing my xp per chin to be safe, but I do think 210xp/chin at level 77 is quite an overestimation, especially if you're managing 1800 chins/hour (Not spending forever lining up perfect 3x3 chins)

Ninjaedit: The thread you're basing formulas on is using extreme ranging potions, that explains it.

Could you link to the spreadsheet on google docs or something? I'd be interested in playing with it.

Do you have any proof that occult works on all targets? I asked on the forums when it first came out and everybody said it's single-target

Oh whoops-- was chenw using extremes in the guide? lol

I've got a bunch of other data from back when I got 99 ranged way back in actual 2007. I'll share it here later too.

idk how to upload stuff to google docs. i mightj ust have to copy and paste the cell formulas for you instead or something

I know for a fact salve doesn't - no info on occult however.  But salve(i) is useless, no reason to spend points on it.

I asked in a high level PvM clan and several people seemed very confident that occult does deal full damage to all targets.

I imagine it works in the same way void works, or something. I can't remember if staves deal to all targets, but I think they do, so it's probably just that, and Salve is the dumb exception.

Your chinning dude was also using Void deflector with an armadyl chestplate by the way, despite the picture of zammy book.

Salve probably only checks if the main target is undead, and ignores all the other aoe targets. I imagine that void and occult make direct modifications to your effective level directly, so it would affect all your targets.

Yep, that's correct. I don't know what "occult" is so I can't comment on it.

Well that's the other thing-- IIRC arcane stream never boosted multi-target damage (and AFAIK there was nothing ever in the game that boosted multi-target magic damage), so why would the occult be any different? The OSRS magic damage-boosting items would have to be programmed differently than the pre-EOC items

Could someone just post a pic of someone dealing 23+ damage to at least 2 targets with ice burst or something?

If you have a magic version of black masks in 07, you can prove it by seeing if their multipliers stack. If they do, then it applies to AOE hits.

Didn't Stream stack with FSH in pre-EOC?

I think so. I just remember barraging rock lobsters with my staff of light and arcane stream and only one lobster would receive 30+ damage.

As far as I know it didn't. Void was the only thing that would have stacked with it, but obviously that wasn't possible.

I could be wrong, but when chinning aren't all 9 hits based off the accuracy of the one you're targetting? In which case you should definitely use salve ie for the accuracy even if the damage only applies to 1 target.

I want to say that it only decides if you hit a 0 or not - if the first hit is a 0, all are otherwise you can hit a 1 with the primary hit and your max off the other hits.  I'm just going off memory from my chinning though, so I could be wrong.
