A Quester's Dream - Replayable Quests

Recommended Posts

I propose a revamp to the quest system, one that would allow for replaying all of our favorite (and least favorite) quests and set up a tiered process of improving your quest cape.

This would be similar to the prestige system in the Funorb game Arcanists, where, once you buy all of the spells, you can use a feature called Prestige. Each time you Prestige, a mark above your character's head gets a little bigger and more defined, until you reach Level 10 Prestige. This Prestige mark helps distinguish the more experienced players from the lesser.

This would be a revamp of the quest journal that, once completed, allows you to go to the Wise Old Man and reset it. Upon resetting your questing journal, you will be transported back to Tutorial Island/Sir Vant's Dungeon/wherever new players start nowadays and begin the Learning the Ropes quest. Your character will experience a loss of memory, all of your quests will be set to Not Started (colored in red), and you can do them all again. Once you redo all the quests, you will receive a certain piece of exclusive equipment and an adjustment to the design/color of your quest cape.

The first time you complete all the quests, you will be given a quest cape. Each time you reset your quest journal, then do all the quests again. There could be a limit to how many times you can use this function, or not. Upon completing all of the quests, you talk to the Wise Old Man in Draynor Village and he gives you a exclusive item, with each item being better than the last. I would imagine these items would be similar to the task system outfit, a single outfit with each piece giving special benefits/effects. Additionally, each successive playthrough of a quest could provide subsequently larger experience rewards, to add incentive to continue to 'Prestige' your Quest Cape. This should also be rewarded with new titles.

The premise behind this idea is a revamp to the Quest Cape to make it more unique than just a regular skillcape. Also it would probide the ability to replay certain entertaining and exciting quests. I believe it would reintegrate quests as an integral part of Runescape.

Cleaned up some tags to make it look a little better/more readable on light skins :).

Not a bad idea, but I have a feeling it might not gather enough support for the same reason as the original prestige for skills failed :(.

Replayable quests with a few unique bonus rewards for the replay like Broken Home? Win for me.

A prestige reset system for replaying? Ew no.

I am sorry to say, but they already said no on this idea. As it isn't as easy as it seems. It would take a lot of time per quest to make it replayable. This is because by playing quest you change the game, you get rewards, items, other quests and access to areas you otherwise would not have, and thus for you to be able to replay the quest you would need to be restricted to all those things that could interfere with it. They said that if they would make older quest repayable they would look at each quest individually.

I think I consider myself a quester, but I would hate to redo every single quest...especially for some difference on the quest cape. Also, I hardly can find time to complete all the times once (I haven't even done that yet) that I can't imagine redoing each quest over and over. Maybe there could be a trimmed quest cape that has additional requirements, but to redo every quest? I don't know if I can support that.

That poor database admin who would have to come up with a way to keep track of what trigger your at on a quest you've already done lol.

Considering their current way of keeping track of triggers doesn't distinguish quests directly hence that glitch video of completing the whole sea slug quest chain by PAFTing into the final cutscene of Salt in the Wound.

But seriously most people hate quests, and I can't see it being worth the 100's of hours it would take to fix this on the back end.

Now I have something to say.

I agree that resetting ALL quests would be torture as I would never wanna lose the ability to hold my trustworthy dragon battleaxe.

However, I don't see how it's a problem to reset ONE quest at a time. More specifically the one I would wanna re-do for commentary.

I really do wanna do that, so far all of you responded to the idea of reset which I totally agree is a horrible idea.

But would my idea work?

The main obstacle is that, from a programming standpoint, this would be extremely difficult. You would have to tell it to not give the rewards, quest points, etc., a second time...and while that sounds easy in theory, since the system is not at all set up to handle those types of requests, it just becomes difficult.

Like Ring World tried to explain (or at least I think he did), if you try to do the first quest in the sea slug series (assuming you have completed the series), you end up getting in parts of the last quest in the series because the game doesn't recognize you not completing the other quests. Thus a developer would have to make sure that all the "triggers" have been found and that there are no glitches whatsoever. Which is a ton of work, it is not as simple as just allowing us to do quests again.

Wait, GTAV allows me to repeat quests just fine.

Then again that game is small compared to RuneScape. So yeah, I see what you guys mean.

The best thing I can do is to review the quests based on memory. I'm sure if I read an article about the quests I will be able to remember what happened. I mean I do remember Monkey Madness, Hero's Quest and Cook's Assistant pretty well.

RS Wiki usually has a decent amount of information, although it may be more oriented around guiding you through completing the quest rather than the experience of the quest itself.
