Is the quest Lost City a challenge anymore?

Featured Replies

Before the toolbelt was invented, you had to kill a zombie or a greater demon in Eterna dungeon to get a steel/bronze hatchet. Otherwise you couldn't finish the quest.

But nowadays you can slice a tree with a dragon hatchet directly from your toolbelt, and yes even of Eterna, trust me I tried.

So that leads me to believe that the part of that quest where you needed to kill a zombie or a greater demon is no longer there.

So has that part of the quest been removed challenge-wise? I really am wondering about that.

That's indeed true, you can skip the step with having to kill zombies for a hatchet since your toolbelt hatchet will work. I'd still say that's a small part of the quest personally. Hatchets are an uncommon drop so probably killing ~10 of them would be enough, and since they are low level I doubt it would be much of a challenge aside from relatively low level players.

It might be a minor part but it's still something.

The zombie and greater demons serve no purpose there anymore since nobody bothers killing zombies unless they don't care about awful drops, and there are countless better places to fight greater demons.

Well, whether or not that one part removes the challenge of the quest is a rather subjective question, so I was just giving my input on the matter ;). But yeah I doubt anyone fights them down there.

See the thing is getting the hatchet wasn't really the challenge.

The challenge is in defeating the tree spirit with next to no gear, I'd say that element still holds up today especially as they have tightened up on several old tricks (ie taking materials to fletch/craft ranged gear after you arrive)

Could you explain how they tightened up on that?

I guess it could be that you can no longer bring logs and dragonhides to Eterna, but that wouldn't make sense since they don't count as armor or weapons.

But then again Zamorak robes aren't either but these stubborn monks don't allow these for some reason. Might have to do with their blind hatred towards Zamorak.

Unless something has changed again recently they added in a block that stops you making weapons and armour on the island. So that it no longer allows you to complete a bow or arrows or w/e

Are you not allowed to say, bring a bunch of dragonhides to Entrana and make them into d'hide armor anymore? I'm genuinely curious because both the Wiki pages on Entrana and the Lost City quest itself seem to indicate that you can.

I guess that applies to the dungeon too?

I guess that makes sense, except it does make me wonder if that's stopped the zombie and greater demon from dropping weapons/armor.

I brought spider silk and runes to Entrana just fine, and made a wand in the dungeon on my im account.

In real life MMO you don't get 99 smithing by making endless bronze daggers.

Like saradomin mage said, I had no problem creating magic armor on the island, and I did it on my ironman account. The boss is a joke with magic/range because it can be safe-spotted.

I redid it on my alt account recently and I honestly expected it to be difficult like it was on my main account back in the day, but it wasn't at all. It was quite easy, maybe even too easy.

It was never difficult, people just struggled due to lack of knowledge

I guess that boss is also easy with melee as long as you bring a shit ton of sharks.

I tried that on my low level account and I seemed to miss a lot of the times fighting bare-handed (not sure if it was against that boss though), it looks to me like EOC made bare-handed fighting impossible (at least for low stats). Also making magic weapons/armour and bringing along runes is pretty easy :P so why not do that.

Nobody said you have to fight it bare handed, there is a demon and a zombie you can kill for a weapon.

are you gonna kill those barehanded or what?

Alright I will admit maybe that's difficult also.

But there is a legacy mode. Normally I'm against it, but isn't fighting bare-handed easier there?
