Arquebus and the 80 Defense Armor (updated! Lancer Armor!)

Featured Replies

The problem with the line formation is it would be a little hard to team PK effectively, since It would be very hard to coordinate movement. Also, when a line of, say 10 people are firing at a single target, some of the line would move closer towards the target due to being out of range.

Instead, how about, when the Arquebus is equipped, the player will be placed at the centre of a 3x3 square. Any player that comes into this square gets their Arquebus stats boosted as well. This would make it easier since instead of painstakingly moving into a line, you could just have a horde of people.

That works, the premise of the boosting system is that another armsman is standing adjacent to you in any direction.

Working on first segment of 80 defense armor now!

I like the first segment of the 80 def armor! Will this armor be able to be made from the remains of dragons? Or will you have to do a quest/minigame of some sorts to obtain it?

Cmon Steve you can do it!

There should be lvl 80 attack/magic/ranged weapons too, to balance it out, though. otherwise it would cause really boring fights in PvP. much like 2 impure f2p'ers in full rune with a scimmy.

Don't worry, there are at least 4 other sets running through my head for various combat types.

And the various pieces are rare drops from a new dragon of Jagex's discretion :).

A few questions about the Lancer armour:

1. Does it degrade?

2. If it does, how do you repair it?

3. Is the weapon like every other Godawful spear, in that it can only train with Controlled or Defensive?

Good question:

1. No. Jagex is on thier own to make a rediculously hard quest to get it. All of the 80 defense armors will be in this fashion, in mini-quest format just like Recipe for Disaster.

2. N/A

3. No, this spear will be able to train attack (stab), strength (slash, crush) and defense (stab). It will be a unique weapon outside of the spear class.

Overpower, pl0x? I don't like the team element of the gun, nor do I like guns in general. The gun would only prove useful in the wild, and massive clans would just use it whilst standing in a pile. It can do too much together, and takes too long on its own. Lame. I'm sorry, but I just really dislike it.

As for the armour, even with armour for the other classes, it screws the combat triangle. It doesn't matter that you don't like the triange, it exists for a reason. Your armour (when taken as a whole set, when it actuallly makes a difference to rune) actually reverses the combat triangle. How does that make sense? When everyone gets their lame super powered armour set, battles will rage on for a century, and running from the battle will mean a sure escape.

Adding quests worthy of #100 scale just for some overpowered player submitted armour seems to be asking for a bit much, does it not? And how do you plan on cramming 3 spec bars into the attack styles page? I do like the sound of that 30% chance of 1 hitting... oh wait, that might just be because its so insanely overpowered, it outstrips any weapon that can, or will ever be created for runescape. A fire cape will become a symbol of nothing, and suddenly the 702 Jad doesn't seem so challenging, make it to him 3 times, you're guarenteed a shiny new cape.

Over all, I think they're both overpowered in the right circumstances, and plus, Jagex isn't going to take user submitted ideas for newbie armour, let alone the 1337357 gear to ever show itself in rs.

A) Whole point of Arquebus is for clan wars, read.

B) EIGHTY DEFENSE ARMOR. Of course it is overpowered, because it is supposed to be more powerful than anything out there! And I do not limit myself to "traditional triangle." RS2's PK system is dead, and needs revamping...not revitalization. The future of PKing resides in new classes.

You say long drawn out battles would occur? Why not? It's stronger armor! I am also the same guy who argues for the PK Anywhere system and the 3-turn rule to come back.

C) You are not Jagex. Neither is this board. It's a discussions board. If someone wants to come in and write a long, thought out punch in the face to conventions, let them.

I did read your post, and I see you say its for pking, but perhaps Jagex should actually do something with the wild, the last thing they did was add a monster in it. They don't seem too hurried to introduce much for pking related gear, let alone pking exclusive gear.

Yes, the armour should be powerful, but its too powerful for the weapons that currently exist. I think weapons should be an entire 10 levels higher than the highest level of armour, because its far too easy to run away and avoid death entirely as it is. If you think pking is dead now, just wait till theres warriors up there that have armour more than capable of resisting entangles and ice ancients. No one would have to worry about not escaping from the wild.

You can't get 'not limit yourself' to the triangle just because you don't want to. It is the basis of the entire pvp combat system. It can't be revamped, people would get miffed. It only makes sense for warrior>ranger>mage>warrior. The best melee armour was metal, swords cut through leather, leather doesn't conduct, arrows pierce robes, robes allow flow of magic, metal conducts magic. It just makes sense that way.

Whoa whoa whoa, I'm not Jagex? Oh, I guess I don't have a gold crown when I talk. Too bad. I'm just saying, if you want to suggest something, try suggesting something within reason. I'm aware none of these suggestions will ever be implemented, except for fixing what already exists, but we post here anyways.

I should also mention that the Lancer armor is not warrior armor...which does function like normal warrior armor with a highly negative mage penalty and an amazing range protection.

When you use a melee range weapon, I consider it melee. And as you just said, great protection to all classes. Except monks. Monks rule.

What? Lancer armor is weak to ranged. And monks will only have limited offensive prayers.

And the spear's attack range is one square, sans the special attack. And it would not be hard to get 3 bars in there.

Post one above mine.

Monks are underpowered, I know. THey aren't really a class of attack.

Yes, the spear is used withing a melee range. As in getting up close and personal with your enemy. Thats what I call melee. And it its better against mage then range, it screws with the triangle, which is the basis of pvp combat.

The amazing range protection is on the actual warrior armor. Not the Lancer.

and not every game has a triangle. Look at guild wars, multiple classes. Its more like a 6-pointed shape.

Good Ideas, but I see a few problems with the Lancer Set.

1. It would be overpowered in the wilderness unless the other sets not named yet could balance it out. The full set could destroy mages and meleers, but against rangers, you could just equip some other melee armor so the armor becomes like rune and gives tons of range defence.

2. You can't die. In the unlikely event that you're losing a battle in the full set, you could just run. You can't be caught, and you can't be frozen/bound/entangled unless you have a horrible magic level.

i don't like the idea of going into guns/rifle cannons.. i think we have to draw the line somewhere. If you start to add gun like things then people will want janissaries which are as old or maybe even older than your class and they had rifles.

what if you concentrated on improving the long bow for clan war circumstances. Give it a use, pretty much use what you said.. get them in a line and their fire power increases. Because that was the sole purpose of longbowman.. to stand back and shower the skies with arrows.

Also it's good that your coming up with new ideas.

What about giving monk better armour/weapons.. make them more of a pk class. they should be able to have damage prayers and heal other so they can act as medics in wars.

Excuse me?

The last time I checked, rifling was only developed for infantry weapons in the 18th century.

To say that rifling existed at the same time or even before the arquebus is like saying that we had M1A2s before the first Model T rolled off the production line.

Can we have parachute pants like the Arquebus guy has?

I'm confused at why anything would have a 30% chance at killing anything in one hit. Three people in multicombat with this armour all using their specials at once, would have a 90% chance of killing somebody in one hit. Also, anyone with half a brain could stay and alch at the mage arena lever, or at the edge of edgeville wilderness, and have a quick hit everytime their special bar filled. Kind of silly :).

Im not so sure about the 30% instant ko like 4gotmypass said, sounds pretty cheap. (you could kill anyone instantly regardless of their levels, armor etc, so long as youve done the quest and have the armor and weapon?)

But otherwise, looks really cool.

I am thinking about making the instant KO special unique to NPCs only...maybe even Dragons only. Each set will feature 2 normal specials and a third unique (NPC only) special that relates to that specific profession (Hunters have a KO on wild beasts, Cleric on demons, etc.)

Alright, three people in this armour will be able to stun an opponent for 36 seconds. Who can survive 36 seconds without being able to eat, especially when your opponents have ridiculously overpowered armour?
