Greedom1
I might be a bit older than some as I teach at college, and love it (teaching that is). I play runescape and love it (most things about it). Believe me, 1600+ lvls in a year or so didn't come accidentally. I feel for you, and if I were your age, I wouldn't spend some of the best years of my life playing this game. This is also why I've decided that every 5th slayer assignment I get, I run at least 2 miles (in real life) instead of running over to the nearest bank to gear up for the task. (Obviously you could substitute studying, reading, cooking for parents/friends/wife, or some other worthwhile activity...) On a personal note, the recent Jagex update "notice" about runescape dominating social, work, and education time is especially worth reading through again in my opinion. This game is addictive as any vice: alcohol, nicotine, pornography, or even other MMORPGs.... The solution is moderation and maturity... Though I will add that I have many lessons to learn from both, and I'm sure all of you could as well. My final point (and perhaps the only worth reading), ENJOY this game; please don't let it dominate you. Thanks~ *stepping off of soapbox* Happy RSing. bigmoneyak
Bye. Quit if you want but don't go on a crusade to belittle the game that we play and try make us quit as well. If you keep playing games you'll probally be back, as this game is the most addicting out of all MMORPGS. This game is virtually impossible to become good at without dedicating a good deal of time to it. Since you can't moderate properly and have decided to knock the game becasue of that I can only say Bye. Get a new hobby away from computers, something more taxing and fullfilling. And when you dont excel or get bored with it, make a big production out of it and try get everyone you play with to quit and go with you to your next hobby that you feel is superior to your last. My advice to you. Enroll in a karate class and learn some discipline. Random? Yes. Helpfull? Probally. BYE! cardsfan
Personally, insted of quitting, you might consider playing very casually. Maybe and hour or two every few days, or less. But we must realize, runescape is not life.i do that pretty much, but in a game i dont get addicted to. in age of mythology i have no goal, where in runescape i had constant goals. i was trying at once to get both 85 slayer, 90 defense, and 94 magic, all in teh same time period. that in itself was addictive, not to mention the games of castle wars i wanted to play, the tet events id wnat to attend, and many other things. now, in age of mythology all i do is find a game to play, and play it. there's no goal to find the perfect game, theres no goal to be the best because i dont play rated games. so in the end, age of mythology gives me just as good of a time, without giving me any real goal but to have fun. Bye. Quit if you want but don't go on a crusade to belittle the game that we play and try make us quit as well. BYE!like i said before, i dont want to tell you to quit right this instance. i just want you to take into perspective how much time you spend on this game. sure, if you have nothing else you can do, why not spend it on something enjoying? in response to the addictiveness and the time consuming aspects of the game, i totally agree with you. I HAVE been on serious skill sprees as you have, i HAVE been on the same crazes before, as you have, and i can say now that i have quit that they werent worth it. spending 12 hours on a weekend getting those levels? if you ask me that is going too far. and in response to the hobbies, ive always had other hobbies, even when i was playing this game. I've always liked to run, play the violin, listen to classical music, and ive always been a pretty social person. On the other hand, i devoted more time to runescape than i did to almost all of these COMBINED. id have to say that runescape was a necessary step in my life, and im glad i played it. it taught me so much about myself that i couldnt learn from doing other things, but its time to go. when you play the game you dont realize how many hours you spend on it. you dont realize that it wont get you into college, and it certainly isn't going to pay the bills. so yes, i agree with what you're saying, but hear me out. im NOT telling you to quit, just to take a step back and look at what you truly want. do you want that job as a brain surgeon? do you want to go to an Ivy League school? questions like this have told me that i need to spend a little less time playing, and a little more time studying, but that doesnt mean i gave up having fun, it just means that im prioritizing what i have to do to succeed in the rest of my life. Farewell, Goodluck in the future. Winkthankyou 8) Goodbye my lover. Goodbye my friend. You have been the one. You have been the one for me. :?: :?: :?: this game is GODits posts like these that make me scepticle (sp?) of the tip it community. are you really so thick headed that you cant even try to look at it from my point of view? next time, please dont look at a post like this and say "what a loser i could care less about what he says, even if it may be true", and try saying "gee, ill look at his point of view even if i dont like it". once again, i dont want to change your life, but i would like to tell you about what ive done wrong in my life so i can possibly save someone out there from making the same mistake I might be a bit older than some as I teach at college, and love it (teaching that is). I play runescape and love it (most things about it). Believe me, 1600+ lvls in a year or so didn't come accidentally. My final point (and perhaps the only worth reading), ENJOY this game; please don't let it dominate you. Thanks~ *stepping off of soapbox* Happy RSing.thats exactly the reason i play games for. the only problem with rs is that it is so addictive. nobody who plays this game can honestly say that there is no addiction involved in it. that reason alone was enough to make me quit and find a less addicting game. so yes, i completely agree with what your saying, i just cant trust myself to play such an addicting game. i like playing games cause im makes me relax... it makes me forgot real life problems...i think i posted something about that before. i think the first step to becoming addicted is to use this game as a way to "escape from life". i truly believe that that is the main reason that people become addicted. but yes, if you use it to relax, more power to you! games were meant to help you relax, and if you use them to do that, great job! No matter what you do in life, do what make you the happiest. Do whatever it takes to fill that void. If this is what makes you happy, then good on ya'. Some just like to escape for a while. That's why we play games, to escape reality, and that makes some happy to be able to get away. If its what you want, then grab it by the horns and take a ride.well said, although i still disagree with you. many people realize that this makes them happy. not many people realize that this probably will not make them happy forever. what happens if you lose interest in this game? all of those hours mean nothing once you've quit. what happens when you need a job? how will your 99 stats help you then. im just saying that this game isnt going to make you happy for the rest of your life. but i still believe that playing it is a good thing, just not to the point where it takes over your life. I find it kind of ironic that you quit runescape so that you can do other more "productive" things with your time yet you say you play age of mythology instead. You go from one game to another. Yes you probably don't play as much but that's still time you could use for reading or exercising which ultimately has no real benefit other than achieving things you want. Reading for example, is nothing more than diving into a different world and spending all that time not gaining anything but a story unfolding before you. If that's the case then you can obviously say that a game is the same way. Yes reading will increase your vocabulary but so will playing a game more often than not. It's still not really producing anything other than pleasure in your mind. Exercising can extend your life expectancy but there are several people who just simply use the walking they do during the way as exercise and are perfectly healthy and live a long life. Exercising to gain muscle on the other hand gives nothing really productive. Yes you have increased muscle, but what are you going to use that muscle for? Are you going to enter a contest where muscles are the main requirement? Those are still just things you want to do. Not anything you have to do to live. You could say that the muscle would help you move the things around the house and various other things. Well for example when are you going to try to move a large screen television by yourself. You would normally have somebody else help you and two to three people can handle something like that. The point im trying to make here is that that time that you spend playing rs COULD be used for more productive things but you more often than not still only do things that you want to do and not have to.i dont know if i mentioned it before, but i certainly wrote something about this at the top of this post. Age of mythology, at least for me, is a much less addicting game. I dont have to worry about leveling up, since there are no levels. i dont have to worry about getting on the highscores, since i dont play rated games. I dont have to worry about looking cool, or being rich, because there is no money involved. isntead, all i have to worry about is having fun. how does reading and exercise have no real benefit? i know im going to the extreme here, but i currently weigh ~105 pounds and im 15 years old. If i were to stop exercising and eat more unhealthy food, i would gain a lot of weight. i certainly wouldnt want to do that. Also, by gaining weight you open yourself up to health problems. exercising alone increases heart strength, and keeps your muscles fit. im not someone who cares about having the biggest muscles, or being the best at a specific sport. I exercise to keep myself in shape, to avoid problems that i may have in the future. if looking out for my future health is a crime, then you may find me guilty. reading-how can you honestly say that reading has no point? if you read school books and find it interesting, will that not probably help improve your grades? i myself read a mix of books that i enjoy, and books that i should read for school. read the lord of the rings series? of course i do! read an SAT biology book? i also do. to the other posters-thankyou for your comments and your wishes. I am staying a part in the tip it community, but you will probably only see me in runescape at TET events. R.I.P. Shiva
highlanders
I see your point but I think you're stretching it a bit. Of course, we spend hours on Runescape, but when we are home with nothing else to do. What could we do, home alone, late in the day, that could be so much more 'useful'? Alright, one hour of studying, how bout a little walk outside, alright, still time left, what else is SOO important we could do at this time? Do you do what my friends, who don't play Runescape, do of their free time? They go drunk themselves at parties/they watch TV/they spend all their parents' money on phone (bills)/they do nothing(wow!). 2480+ total

Lighs
Runescape isn't for everyone. If you can't play without playing too much, you shouldn't be playing at all. You know, not everyone who plays this game is addicted. Plenty of people play this in the time that they would otherwise spend watching television or something of the sort. Is there a problem with that? Sure, you won't gain levels as rapidly as you would if you played 24/7. In the end, though, who cares? What matters is that you have fun. I only play one hour a day on weeknights (at the most) and maybe three hours on Sunday (if I really have nothing else to do). I am a straight A student with an active social live, and RS is a way for me to remain in contact with some friends who I made in middle school but don't see that often. It's a great game when played in moderation. Personally, I enjoy the feeling of accomplishment that I get when I beat a hard quest or reach a milestone in a skill. Games that don't have that aren't as much fun for me (although I play them as well). Whatever floats your boat, though... if you like Age of Mythology more, go with it. Runescape isn't for everyone. If you can't play without playing too much, you shouldn't be playing at all. You know, not everyone who plays this game is addicted. NO game should take over your life to the point where you cannot stop playing it. as for the rest, i do believe that games are amazing for you if you play in moderation. if you play 10 hours a week at most? way to go. what happens when those hours start adding up? 10? 20? 30 hours a week? i think that you would agree that that kind of addiction is going too far. I'm sad . .. I know what you are saying is the truth. I play too much . . .the point of this topic isn't to make you sad, or to make you think that you're living your life the wrong way. this topic is my way of saying dont make hte same mistake that i have made. its my way of saying that this isnt your future, and that if you just spend a little less time playing this game and studying, it can make a huge difference in your future. to others of you who have read this, i thank you for spending your time reading this post, and i hope that even if you dont agree with me, that you will take my thoughts into consideration R.I.P.
