You'll improve gradually as you keep tinkering with your pixels and learn techniques.

clean up your lines, make your shading better, the only ok thing is the dragonhide thing is the pants. his shoes look like socks, define the line that makes it flat on the surface, SHADE BETTER!

First attempt or not, I'm going to be harsh. How can you be satisfied with this piece at all? It would take a blind man to be even consinderably satisified with it and he'd then say it was horrible when you described it. You desperately need to work on your anatomy, don't make your pieces so large. Pixeling is not meant to cover a huge area. The anatomy is just horrible over all, I don't remember anyones head being the shape of a gigantic grapefruit. People do not have fat puggy, non defined arms. I don't care if the person is fat or not, there is definition and some sort of tone in there. Which brings me to my next point, no shading! You put absolutely no shading into this piece. Was it because you didn't know how or just to lazy? Regardless, you need to learn... FAST. That's what makes a pixel piece is it's shading and looks of realism. And yours is by no means real in any shape, way, or form. Go back to the drawing bored, learn anatomy, shading, and controling your canvas size.
