How Realistic Is The Threat Of Being Hacked?

Featured Replies

From the last week I've had 2 friends get hacked.

I've known them for a while and gave them full mith to

help them get back on their feet.

Because of this I'm considering putting in a bank pin

but I'm a little hesitant about making one.

So is the threat of being hacked worth putting in a bank pin?

My account has been around for less than 5 yrs and still is intact

so I figure that if anyone wanted to hack it, they would have gotten

it by now. Plus my account is nothing special either.

the threat of being hacked is the same as the threat of your home being broken into; just remember to lock the door, set your alarm, etc.

you wont be hacked if you dont click any links, dont give out your pass, and choose a good and close pass that no one else knows. your friends probably got hacked because of there carelessness. dont worry about it, keep your stuff in the bank with a pin + recov questions, and your chance of being hacked is minimal.

if i were you i would just do the bank pin, even if someone stole your account they wouldent be able to get the items in your bank. also be sure to set recovery questions that way its super easy to get your account back. and make sure that you like yomom1919 said (immature name but i can live with it  ) dont go to any websites that look suspiceous. and never give anyone your pass no matter what they offer (thats what happened to me when i was a noob a guy offered 10k, it seemed like a lot ) Just safegaurd your pass and you'll be fine

Very few people get hacked. They either gave out their pass or someone who knows them irl guessed their pass because it was simple. Also, why wouldn't you get a pin? There isn't any risk from having one....

What does a bank pin do?

When people get "hacked" on runescape, it is not really being hacked...it is that they (as stated above) gave out there password to a friend ect...my friend got "hacked" a bunch of times because of his idioticy.

Also when someone finds out your password once, there is a chance they will get it again...if they changed the recovery questions.

Also remember to use a different password than you use for any forums etc.

The vast majority of players being hacked have been by so called Friends or those foolish enough to be TEMPTED by GREED!

Bank Pins are annoyingly good, they protect what your not wearing from hackers and key loggers, so bear that in mind if someone knows your pass word but not your pin then they can only take what you're wearing!

Jagex have posted on their site steps for players to follow, check it out.

Might be worthwhile having a permanent post on known scams/hack methods.

Common Sense thats all you need.

Urgh, peolpe.

People dont get hacked by giving away their passwords, people get hacked by getting keyloggers on their computers.

Keyloggers are plain ol' tracking cookies, that record your password as you type.

Just run things like Ad-Aware or Spy Bot S&D oftenly to minimalise the chance of being hacked

No, I've been hacked about three times by friends watching me type my pass. I thought they were turned around but hey.

Then your just being stupid.

The majority of people gets hacked by keyloggers

Got stats or anything to back that up?

I think that the bank pin doesn't help anything. If someone manages to get to your acc, he can just click the bank pin away with the "I don't know it" button. It takes few days till the bank pin disappears, and then he can get your stuff :(

Got stats or anything to back that up?

No, but I do got common sense.

Seriously having your password stolen is very far away from being hacked and pretty much only either idiots or people who choose their friends quickly and without judgement lose it this way the other do through keyloggers

Some good "friends" you got there.
