Making steel bars

Priven

Recommended Posts

Alright...so I figured out that smelting steel bars takes you, well, forever. I swear it took me 2 hours to make 350 of them. It just takes so long to get 9 iron and 18 coal every. single. time!. Is there ANY better way? Am i completely doing it wrong? Or is it suppose to be that slow?! Btw...im f2p so nothing p2p please.

The first time you go up there withdraw 9 iron, 19 coal. Smith them, go back to the bank. With the 9 bars still in your inventory, withdraw all coal, deposit the 9 bars, withdraw all iron. You're now ready to smith again and can repeat that easy pattern :)

Currently: Using 63 hunter to get some of those "Chins", then I'm going to range stuff down. Interruptions of agility when I feel like it, as well.

And lucky enough to get 4 Dragon and 6 Barrow Drops.

Yes, this means I look exactly like the protagonist of that certain anime that my second character, Faye_V is also named after. Yes, I bought a jacket that also looks like his. No in real life I don't have a slain bear to sling over my shoulders. Yes, I'm that skinny even if I no-life it for years in basements. No, I can't shoot a gun. Yes, I can win any other strategic video game you have never played - because I probably have, ahahaha. And yes, I also have brown eyes, yet one of my eyes looks different from the other. And yes, I'm completely oblivious to the [real] world around me as I constantly engineer new solutions to daily problems in my head. When I get hungry, all that isn't food can wait. When I'm sleepy - nothing is of any priority in front of sleep. But at any other time, I never slow down. Never give up. Never Surrender. Makes for a good life.

Making 1k of them this very moment :P .

Withdraw 10 iron ore

Withdraw "all" coal

smith+return

store 10 bars

Click your iron ore

Repeat. Works good enough for me.

using the al kharid furnace you should be able to make 300-350 bars per hour. my setup is like this: no armor except maybe my favorite boots, cape and hat, in my inventory, 1 chisel, 9 iron bars, 18 coal. the chisel is weightless and very often if you get a random, you have a decent chance they give you an uncut gem, so it speeds up deposit time for me to cut and bank (i only bank cut gems)

for each trip you withdraw all your ores as i mentioned, then you walk to the furnace, which is one click away. click on the furnace, right click on the steel and select 'smelt 10'. when youre done hold down the ctrl key and click bank (its a shortcut to running without having to switch to your movement screen), this will let you run back to the bank with your bars. only run on your way back because youre about 60% lighter than on your way to the furnace, so your energy lasts for many more trips than if you run both ways.

like the othe guys said, when you get to the bank screen, youll have 1 chisel and 9 steel bars and exactly 18 free spaces. witchdraw all coal to fill up the 18 spaces first, then deposit 10 steel (or all steel, same thing) into your bank and withdraw 10/all iron. 3 clicks and youre ready for your trip back to the furnace.

this way you should be able to easily do over 300 bars an hour, and to my knowledge its the fastest way to make steel in f2p

Runescape doesn't play nice if I have IE open at the same time. Fortunately, I absolutely love mining and smithing, so it doesn't bore me too easily. If I do start to get a little bored (usually after mining about 200 coal or smithing about 100 steel plates) then I log out of RS and come here.

What i would do is:

Mine 56 coal

store in bank

Mine 28 iron

Store in bank

Repeat however many times until you get what you want**

Go to Al Kharid

Pull out 10 iron

Pull out "all" coal

Smelt them

Store bars in bank

repeat until done

go back to varrock

Pull out hammer

Smith them

**

Repeatx0= 28 bars

Repeatx1= 56 bars

Repeatx2= 84 bars

Repeatx3= 112 bars

every time u repeat u get 28 more bars

Eek!

A better idea, generated from Canucks_R00l is to do as such

Withdraw 9 iron, then 18 coal. Use your last slot as a Chisel, for all those random gems you get :D

When you have made the bars, withdraw coal, deposit bars, withdraw iron. Repeat until you are done!

I'm not sure if you're a member or not, but if you are, smelting in Port Phastmyst is the quickest way. Just wear boots of lightness and ghostspeak ammy. There aren't that many people there so it can get a bit lonely but it's not bad.

I think everything has been covered, but i'll give my input anyway.

The way I did was deposit steel, withdraw 10 iron, put one back, withdraw all coal. Last spot I have 100k cash, as I'm always on the lookout for a good deal =D. I think the other method mentioned is faster, should have thought about it before I smelted 1000s of bars with my method. Though I got ultra fast at banking.

Run only on the way back to the bank, energy will stay around the same, with occasional walking trips. As I said I've made 1000s of bars in alkharid, you can push close to 400 an hour if you don't stop at all. No idea why people do mass smelting in falador, alkharid is the best.

I just did 100 in 25 minutes, so I am slow. I forgot to run:p anyway, the mining of the ores takes the moest time and it's boring. but when you sell all does ores for a nice profit you are probably happy you did it.

good luck with smelting...

The very fastest way would actually, be superheating.

Its faster (no walking), and you get mage xp and still make a profit.

forgot to add that you get smithing exp :wink:

1 coal=190gp

1 coal=190gp

1 iron=100gp

1 nature=300gp

total=780gp

steel bar=600gp

You lose 180gp per bar..

Unless you mine your own coal or make your own nats which takes FOREVER.

superheating steel is not faster than al kharid furnace runs. and its way too costly. superheating makes sense from mith and up, and i still use the furnace for mith once in a while. if youre a member, then port phatasmys furnace beats superheating even for mith
