SirHartlar
This topic was originally made to request for linework for me to practise shading, but I have seen the light and I am going to attempt to make a pixel sig from scratch. Here is some of the work I made to practise shading, it is very small but you may be able to just see what I did. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On this thread you will be able to view my progress as I attempt to complete ten stages: 1. Basic Linework 2. Completed Linework 3. Basic Colours 4. Advanced Colours 5. Shading (Quarter of the sig) 6. Shading (Half of the sig) 7. Shading (Three Quarters of the sig) 8. Shading Complete 9. Text 10. Finishing Touches I will need all the support I can get as I am what you might call a 'newb' to pixelling, if you wish to follow my progress feel free to do so but please refrain from too much flaming. My second post will be reserved for updates.
cupcake
if this means you will stop all those "F355 S16 pl3a53" request and start pixeling. good enough reason to make you one

knives669
The character's left hand needs alot of work. It doesn't even look like a hand. And the skin color is very off.
SirHartlar
The character's left hand needs alot of work. It doesn't even look like a hand. And the skin color is very off. Yeah I am struggling a lot with his left hand. I am also a bit unsure as to how to get a good skin shade but I am sure it will improve by the next update. EDIT: I changed the skin tone and the left hand, added some stars to the sky. Does this look better?
Goldwolflord
Too pale now. Best skin colours tend to be if you go down from orange on the colour select window. - For tanned skins anyway. Try not to make it too orange though.

SirHartlar
Finished linework! I am pleased with it, especially the left hand as it took a bit of determination and staring at my own to get it to look human. I am currently working on the characters shading. Goldwolflord
Ok let me post some things I see wrong with it still. NOT Round eyes - that makes it look amateur. Mouth too wide Skin too pale Mystci bottom looks like a giant pair of shorts - make it look Like more of a robe. Too bright yellow for robes. Staff should be wonky and wooden, not straight. Both hands are too wide - try taking a finger off or cutting down the spaces. Boots are too squar - try make them more rounded on the top half. Hair looks a little like spaghetti - don't do those gaps, just put it straight down beside him. Put a crease in the hat so it looks like it's flopped over. All I can see for now, try experimenting with those things. ^ EDIT: Take a look at Mxm's eyes.

SirHartlar
Ok I changed a lot of the linework and I have to say it looks loads better. Still need to work on the background shading and the floor, but at the moment I would like to perfect the character. If you have any suggestions or C/C please place them here. Here is a picture so you don't have to go back to the front page:
Goldwolflord
Ok, it's looking a lot better but still: Too light yellow; go darker/golder. Staff orb too small Robe bottoms not right - make it round all the way around - the rim - not just around the feet - looks like oversized knickerbockers... His bottom half looks too short - make his legs bigger. eyes still a little round. Hair sticks out a little too much - like an afro Hat was fine how it was, just put a horizontal line or two showing a crease on it. Hope I helped. Coming on well though. DementedHero
Heres a few tips for the background, as it's lacking at this moment. The mountains. They start at the same points, with a flat base? The foreground is flat, really flat. Mountains don't grow out of straight ground. Wait, mountains don't grow at all, but oh well, you get the point. Try some hills in front of the mountains, and perhaps try to give the mountains a bit more original shape by shading them differently., mountains aren't perfectly round, as you tried to shade them. They have dents, cliffs, etc.. There's alot more to a mountain then a cone-shape.. Also, according to the lengths of the arms, the legs are too short, increase the length of the legs a bit. The hat, its right on top his head? Hats are usually put on a hat, where they overlap with the hat for a decent part. This one just seems to sit on top of the head. The hair, why does he have hair at the sides, yet not at the back of his head? Onto the shading. The robes, they don't look like robes. They look quite flat. You need some more contrast there, and some folds too. I know, drawing correct fold is hard, but the only way to learn is to practice. It is not bad, but it could use alot of work. Please, don't take this the wrong way, it's here to help you.
SirHartlar
In no way did I take it offencively, I accept all comments with a lot of respect as I am learning. Your advice on the mountains looks very useful and I will use it when I get to that part of the signature. I will also try some creasing effects, but I think I will try it in a different browser so I don't ruin my shading already (previous crease attempts were abyssmal.) Thanks for the advice! Goldwolflord
Mystic robes example; despite being Red + Black Actually DH's linework, and I did the colouring and such. Tried my best with the robes and I thought they were decent.
