F2P mage training...

I noticed that crumble undead has canged, so it gives less xp.

 

So, by your opinion, is chaos still the best material for a f2p to train magic with? While fire bolt can be used, it doesent give as much xp as crumble undead did, conserning its price/the fact that mind runes can be crafted by f2p... Use of chaos by itself raises xp faster, but that time that is needed to gather gp to buy it must also be takein into account...

Try weaking spells in barbarian bar? Craft or buy your body and water/earth (whichever you want, the one you don't have use a staff for) runes. Or weakening in Varrock sewers is good.

For anything you don't need to take down quickly, Fire strike is plenty good enough, and free if you craft your own runes.

 

 

 

An alternative is Earth strike (uses less airs), with a wielded earth staff - also carry waters and bodies to start the attack with a curse - I'd always start a mage training attack with a curse, as you should get fewer misses.

 

 

 

Comparing spells:

 

 

 

Fire strike does up to 8 damage, and uses 2 airs, 1 mind, fire staff

 

 

 

Fire bolt does up to 12 damage, uses 3 airs, 1 chaos, fire staff

 

Base XP is almost double though, but crumble undead is still the highest XP for chaos, though not the bargain it used to be.

You cant just look at the Base bonus, you HAVE to take into account of the Damage bonus as well.

 

 

 

The way you calculate is, suppose that you hit 0-(insert max damage of the spell) all with equal likelihood, then what your AVERAGE damage should be is [max damage]/2. So with Crumble Undead, you can deal up to 15 damage, so your average would be 7.5, or 15xp average per shot on top of the Crumble undead.

 

 

 

24.5+15 = 39.5 Average

 

Fire Bolt is 22.5 base, 12 max hit, so 12 xp average on top of it

 

34.5 per cast on average.

 

 

 

If you want to take costs into account (assume the worst case scenarios on prices):

 

Fire Bolt needs 3 airs and 1 chaos, 210 per cast, so it costs 6.09p per xp

 

Crumble undead needs 2 airs and 1 chaos, 190 per cast, so 4.81gp per xp

 

 

 

But if you compare the above stats with Fire strike:

 

 

 

Fire strike has base of 11.5, and 8 max damage, so you hit 19.5 per cast on average.

 

Cost of fire strike is 60 gp (1 mind and 2 airs), so 3.08gp per xp.

 

 

 

If you compare, Fire Strike is 50% cheaper than Fire Bolt, but is 50% slower.

 

 

 

If you want stats for Deaths just for completeness sake:

 

 

 

Fire blast has 34.5 base, with 16 max hit. That makes it 50.5 per cast.

 

Cost of Fire Blast is 380 per cast, and costs 7.52 gp per xp

Now the only thing that is left to calculate, is what kind and level of money-making techniques must be used, so that use of crumble undead is justified. After all, time is the only real value in rs...

Want to go cheap: Fire strikes. Costs virtually nothing and it gives you hp xp.

 

 

 

Want to go REALLY cheap: Curses. They don't give any hp xp and they require a lot of clicking though...

And if buying rhe runes, each fire bolt is about 200gp I believe. Fire strike is like 40gp. You get 16 less exp but save 5 times more money.
