stanford
King Black Dragon Slaying Guide The format for this guide is based off oddfaery's guide to the dag kings. *Edit* The guide was salvaged and is now up and running. To Make navigation easier I have divided the guide into sections. Section 1: Introduction + What is the KBD? Section 2: History of the King Black Dragon. Section 3: Suggested inventory and equipment. Section 4: Getting to the Lair. Section 5: Killing the King Black Dragon. Section 6: Tips and tricks for longer trips. Section 7: Player owned houses addition. Section 8: Closings _______________________________________ Section 1: Introduction + What is the KBD? The King Black Dragon (KBD) is one of the strongest monsters in Runescape. Since the release of many more powerful creatures he has been neglected. However, you can still find plenty of people to come with you, in hopes of getting a dragon medium helm or half shield. The king black dragon is a large three headed dragon located beneath the lava maze in level 42 wilderness. Fought improperly he can lead you to a fast trip to lumbridge or Falador. _______________________________________ Section 2: History of the King Black Dragon. 24 September 2002 King Black Dragon (Members' monster) The most fearsome monster ever to venture into Runescape has now... err... ventured into Runescape. 26 April 2005 All things move with the times. The fearsome King Black Dragon, in particular, has developed some slightly different attack styles. He's had his cave enlarged, too. Why not make a journey to his lair, deep in the Wilderness, to see for yourself...? Adventurers are warned that the King Black Dragon may give you a warm welcome, (extremely warm in fact...) so don't forget your anti-dragonbreath shield! _______________________________________ Section 3: Suggested inventory and equipment. When fighting the King Black Dragon magic is ineffective and range requires the use of two hands to wield a bow, so melee is recomended. Melee should wear their best armor, preferably rune or better. Good choices for melee weapons include: Dragon longsword, dragon dagger(s), Dragon Scimitar, and the Abbyssal Whip. Any weapon that is relatively fast with a good slashing attack will do well. This includes the Obsidian knife. The dragon dagger will deal high damage with it's special attack and the poison builds up. Because of it's accuracy you'll want it as a back-up weapon. The dragon longsword and dragon scimitar are also good choices due to their accuracy. If you can, bring an abbysal whip. Rangers should wear their best dragonhide armor with a magic shortbow w/mith arrows or better. They can also use the crystal bow, Karils crossbow, rune knives, or rune darts. One handed weapons such as darts and knives will allow you to wear an anti-dragonfire shield, unfortunatly these weapons are inaccurate. If you don't seem to be getting many of the drops you can switch to a bow. As always, crystal bow and Karil's crossbow are better choices than the magic shortbow. Players that are not weilding an anti-fire shield MUST bring anti-fire pots to stand a chance. Below is the suggested inventory for melee and range fighters. Certain potions can be substituted for food, like prayer pots aren't needed if you plan to recharge prayer at the chaos alter(See section 6) Also, lobsters or swordfish can be substituted for sharks. _______________________________________ Section 4: Getting to the Lair. The King Black Dragon's Lair is located in level 42 wilderness beneath the Lava Maze. To reach it head north-west of Edgeville. Try to avoid popular pk'ing spots like the Chared Arena in lvl 13 wilderness and the dark wizard just north of Edgeville in lvl 6 wilderness. You can also reach the lava maze by heading south-west of the Ardougne teleport lever. Be careful as pk'ers often hide among the demonic ruins, Ardougne teleport arena, and the mage arena bank. Another poupular route takes you through the ice plateau. When you reach the Lava Maze head to the west side and enter a cage with four lvl 82 lesser demons. Drink your stat buffering potions and anti-fire potions just before continuing. Climb down the ladder to enter a small room with five lvl 64 poison spiders. On the southern wall is a lever that teleports you into the lair of the fiercesome King Black Dragon. _______________________________________ Section 5: Killing the King Black Dragon. *Note: The King Black Dragon's lair is non-wild. As you teleport into the cavern warriors who have anti-fire shields turn on protect from melee and fight him. Everyone else should turn on protect from magic. Run up to the King Black Dragon and attack him. Surround him so he wastes much of his time by spinning around to attack people. Mages, (which are extremely ineffective) should stand with the warriors in close range. Rangers should stand at a distance so they cannot be damaged by melee attacks. As for poison...you really should bring anti-poison potions. Even if they're normal ones. That way you don't take any unnecessary damage while your waiting for him to respawn. Here is a picture of the King Black Dragon hitting extremely high. This is why people without anti-fire shields must be very careful of their health points. If you drink an anti-fire potion and use protect from magic you can knock his max hit down to around 25. The King Black Dragon has three dragonbreath attacks. The first is a suped up dragonbreath attack that can hit foe at a distance. This blast can hit in the mid 60's and occasionally lowers your combat stats. The second is a poison blast which deals damage to the foe and poisons them. The poison hits up to 8. The third is an icy blast that freezes the foe in place for a few (5) seconds and may lower your combat stats. With an anti-fire shield the spells max out at 25. Keep your hp high and make sure your prayer does not run out. When the massive dragon has been slain the player who dealt the most damage collects the drop. http://www.tip.it/runescape/index.php?rs2monster_id=219 At this point, you should decide if you will stay or teleport out of the lair. Most people choose to teleport to Edgeville using a glory amulet. If you want to test you skills you can wait for the King Black Dragon to respawn. _______________________________________ Section 6: Tips and tricks for longer trips. If you want to recharge your prayer you can leave the lair and walk to the nearby chaos alter. Be careful as the area around the alter is multi-combat and is a known pk'ing spot. Also if you wear an anti-fire shield and drink an anti-fire potion only his melee attacks, ice blast, and poison blast can damage you. This also severely weakens his long range attacks. If you choose to go melee, and he starts continuously pounding you with high damage and you can't heal fast enough to survive...Walk underneath him so he has to reposition himself to attack you. This gives you time to drink potions and heal. Anti-dragon fire potions last around 6min. Make sure you keep track of time if you don't have an anti-dragonfire shield, so you don't get hit for a 50 when you least expect it. _______________________________________ Section 7: Player owned houses addition. With the release of player owned houses and the skill construction players have the ability to mount the head of the fierce King Black Dragon on the wall of their skill hall. The stuffed head can apparently be spoken to. To create the mounted KBD head requires two Mahogany planks, the stuffed head of the King Black Dragon, and two gold leafs. The stuffed head can be obtained by giving the head of the KBD to the taxidermist who is located in Canifis. It costs 50,000 gold to stuff the head and requires a construction level of 78 to mount on the wall. You gain 1103 construction experience and 200 Attack, Strength, Defence, Ranged, and Magic experience for each head you mount. _______________________________________ Closings I guess I covered everything about the King Black Dragon. If you have any suggestions please post them here. Special thanks to Protector198 and Casey Dog0 for helping me gather pictures for the guide.
