-_-_Tax Rates-_-_

Featured Replies

Good day Scapers, I have a couple of ideas I wish to put across to you all.

------------

WARNING: THIS IS GOING TO BE A RESONABLY LONG READ, IF YOU DO NOT LIKE TO READ LONG PEICES, LEAVE THE THREAD.

------------

Ok this is how my thread will be layed out:

1. Intoduction

2. Tax Rates.

3. Auction House.

4. Supporters List.

5. Reserved.

6. Reserved.

------------

To start off I will give a quick sum up of both my ideas:

-_-_Tax Rates-_-_

This idea is resonably simple, several factors infulence this tax rate, all of which will be explained in detail later. The tax rate affects the price of items from stores, the amount of of logs cut from a tree, speed of fish caught etc.

-_-_Auction House-_-_

This is a building where players can go to sell their items at auction. They set a starting bid, a reserve, and an autowinning bid. Players bid on the item until a player makes the highest bid, and when they do, the money is taken straight from their bank account, and the item is placed striaght into the bank account.

That is a general sum up of my ideas, both of which will be explained in the next few threads.

-_-_Tax Rates-_-_

To start off, I do believe that their should be an NPC that can tell you the tax rate, and expected rises or falls. Also each item in the game should have a "Base Value", i.e a value which from which the tax affects its value.

This tax rate will be based on percentages, the tax rate starting at 100%, the items "Base Value", if tax rate decreases towards 0, then the value of the item, to buy, will decrease, by 100- the new taxe rate. If the taxe rate increases, then the price of the item, to buy will increase by the new taxe rate-100.

For all you non math people out there, I will give a few examples.

Deacreasing tax rate: A item has a base value of 100gp. The tax rate is at 40%, so the items value to buy, will be decreased by 60%, making the item only 40gp to buy.

Increasing tax rate: The same item has a value of 100gp. The tax rate is at 160% so the items value to buy, will be increased buy 60%, making the item 160gp to buy.

-_-_Factors-_-_

Several factors affect Tax Rate. The amount of raw materials entering the game i.e coal, logs, fish, rune essence, will decrease the tax rate. The amount of drops from monsters will also decrease the Tax Rate. The amount of money spent in a shop will increase the tax rate ( Thereby influencing people to obtian their items themselves, lowering the tax rate.)

-_-_What else does the tax rate do?-_-_

The tax rate is extremly benifical to the economy. If the tax rate is low, then the amount of logs cut from a tree, the amount of fish caught, the speed of ores returning, will all increase, as will the drop rate of monsters. If the tax rate is high, then the opposite effect will happen, hence keeping the tax rate low is very benificial to alot of players.

That is about it for tax rate, I will add more if need be.

-_-_Paddy121212-_-_

-_-_Auction House-_-_

Before I start, I would like to state that this is NOT the forums, it is a way of interacting players in a different way, without spam...

This would be a resonably sized building, with different floors, for different items, similar to that of the forums. Players would be able to see what items were up for auction, their starting bid, reserve, and autowin bids.

Players would enter the room and would sit down. An NPC would start the bidding, and any player wishing to bid, would enter their bid, and wait to see if anyone else bids. If so, they then repeat the process until they win, or run out of money.

You may not place a bid higher than you have in gp, it would simply tell you that you insufficient funds.

As I said earlier, the player that wins, would have their winning bid removed from their bank, and the item placed in it.

This idea could affect the tax rate as well, the more people bidding on items, the lower the taxe rate becomes, and visa versa.

I wish to thank you for taking the time to read my thread, and please post any new suggetions, or critism kindly.

If you have read to here simply put --- at the start of your post thank you

This is my thread from the Suggestions Forum Taken straight from there.

Thanks for any posts

1) Who buys from stores nowadays lol  (joke...)

2) No taxes in RuneScape, it will hurt for the newbies/poor people.

Please explain how this will hurt lower leveled players?

Please explain how this will hurt lower leveled players?

because money is a factor

liek omg rly?

I fail to see your point gov'ner.

It hurts newer players because they are the ones who use the shops the most. Money is very tight for younger players. They'll spend days killing goblins just to harness enough money to buy a Mithril sword from Varrock, no need to make them work longer.

Also, it is an excessive idea that is not absolutely needed, nor does it make the game more interesting.

Why do you resist? My experiments are only helping humanity push the boundaries of the Art of Toxicology... you should be proud to be one of my victims.

 i dont like the idea of the tax thing in shops, as i am a newbie, but i do like the auction idea! 8-) its cool, any u usually get more money if u do! i hope tht idea comes true in the game!

cheers

Game mad2 :P :x

It's an interesting thing to consider. Taxes I mean. I've thought about inflation in a lot of games. Inflation of money, items and so on. In fact it destroys every game with an economy.

Take diablo 2 for instance: they had to make new ladder competitions to put a stop to all the level 99 characters and items that were in te game at the moment. Thats why they made to different types of games next to eachother (ladder and non-ladder). Which eventually meant that most people quit non ladder and threw there characters on non ladder away.

That's one possible way to restore the normal economy: start over again with a new one.

Another one is what jagex is doing at the moment: making a skill that costs a LOT.

I've seen how much the new skill costs. It's a nice way to take a lot of money out of the circulation. I think it's not enough... some people make millions a day while others can be glad to make 10k. So in a while, a month or 2, people will have a construction level that is high enough, and the economy is screwed up again.

Though the idea of tax is a nice one, it will in no way work. Like I said: some people make millions a day, or sometimes a million per hour. You cant keep up with this by taxing.

I must say I think it's a WONDER that only rare items have exploded in price (factor 50 to 60). This is a thing that could easily happen to each item that is not easily bought in a store. For instance flax: people could easily charge 400 per flax on selling. And this is not a joke... I still dont understand why the price on those things hasnt raisen... Same with yew logs and other things... You might say it's competion between players. Maybe.. but that wouldnt explain the way rare items have exploded in price the last year.

I don't really think the value rate idea would be usefull. It is mostly new players that use the stores and higher levels hardly use em, so it would be a little useless for new players to need to learn to use a system they won't really be needing later in the game.

It is a good idea though, just not for runescape.

Thanks for all your posts, but you kinda dont see my point on the tax rate thingy ma boober.

This would be benificial to higher players as the could get their resources quicker *points up to tax rate bit of thread*....look again and look at the benifits, then change your posts....or i will be forced to go all darth vaderey on ya'll.

thank j00.

or i will be forced to go all darth vaderey on ya'll.

thank j00.

Like Luke I'm your father thingy ? ^^

It might hurt lower leveled players as they have to pay more, besides... I don't know.

Actually, I personally really like this idea, since I believe the best game is a game with infinite complexity. But most people like simple, repeatitive games, so...

Thanks for saying you like the idea....but yet, I still dont see how this will mean low lvls will have to pay more, they dont have to pay anything at all, no one does.

And yes, it does seem people like to play a repeatitive game.

Well, not everyone has as complex minds as you and I, and forgive my for my apparent arrogance.

Thank you! Finally someone who understands what I'm on about.

And yeah, I kinda think I may have chose the wrong name. :-k

I like the auction house idea,

but I always thought that the $5 a month were taxes on the members for the full-citezenship to runescape.

i totaly agree with auctions. i used to play world of warcraft and loved there auction houses. it makes buying and selling items alot easier. runescape should think about auction houses.

I have never threatened to quit this game before, but if Jagex ever introduced any form of taxation into this game...

1) I'd quit the game

2) Fly to England

3) Rent a hot air balloon

4) Fly over Jagex headquarters

5) And drop 10,000 copies of Adam Smith's "The Wealth of Nations" on their heads.

In other words, Die Taxes Die.
