I have the small rune ess pouch from the quest. I was wondering what monster I have to kill to get the medium and large pouches from and what combat lvl is preferable for fighting them.

In the abyss, you kill the monsters, they drop them :)

Ive always found it fastest to kill the leeches in the abyss for them.

Monsters in the Abyss drop them. Higher levelled monsters drop bigger pouches more often than the others, but note that the drops are random. You could be there four minutes or four hours.

I've only really killed the leeches for all my pouches (small, medium, large and giant). It usually took me around 10-30 minutes but drops are all random. So just be prepared and wear armor and bring some food.

If I ever lose my pouches I just train on the highest leveled abyss monsters for a while, you don't have to pay much attention as the monsters attack you automatically.

1. The abyss entrance is exactly the same place where you started the mini quest, in the wildy north of edgeville. Right click on the mage and there should a Teleport Option, which teleports you directly into the abyss.

 

2. unfortunately you wont survive long in the abyss, the monsters are lv 41, 63 and 87, and it is multicombat area. You would have to train up to at least 70 combat to stay long enough

Actually the easiest way to stay there is 43+ prayer and prayer pots.

but he wont even survive long enough to pot and pray unless he is lucky, and wastes a lot of money, and risks too much as any pker would result in bad consequences.

Just some further advice.

 

 

 

1. I usually take a fair beating in full rune down in the abyss so you might want to train your combat first.

 

 

 

2. Always head to the north-west because there are more leeches there.

 

 

 

3. Try to hole yourself up in one of the dents at the edge of the abyss as only one leech will be able to attack you at a time

 

 

 

4. Always take teleport runes

 

 

 

5. Pick an empty world to use

 

 

 

6. If you want to be really safe take a scouting run up to the Zammy mage with no armour to check for PKers

 

 

 

But I would really try to train up a bit first.

another thing - you can only get certain pouches ie: to get a medium pouch you must have 25 rcing, for a large you need 50, for the biggest you need 75. the abyssal monsters will not drop pouches you cannot yet use.

Not true, i have a giant pouch but i only have 63 runecrafting. you can get any rune pouches, but the order it appears seems to me that it checks if you have a small one first (if you do, it goes to the next size, if you dont, it drops it), the a medium, then a large and finally a giant. I always get them in that order.

oh and if it helps, ancient magics own in the abyss. i go in there with ice burst and take out a couple at a time. it only took a few minutes to get small, med, and large pouches. it speeds up the process.
