Or, (and this is great) I play with my pets. We have a small dog that stays with us inside the house, and throughout my house, we have a wood floor, so I chase the little dog around the house with a broom. It makes me laugh really hard, it's fun, and it's kinda like getting revenge on the dog since it bites my feet all the time.

.

ahaha yeah pets fzw, i got this small cat and hes always in a play mood and that is so fun!! attack eachother or chase eachother.

maybe you should get a pet or something that would help alot.

Yeah. I go for a walk as well when I feel down. (I forgot about that. Thank you, Striker!) It usually just helps me think.

And, he'll be back. They all come back to TIF! And if he feels better, then he can tell us, if he doesn't, he can try some more of our suggestions.

Umm....You guys He\She left so no need to keep posting.

That may be the case, but these suggestions are good ones and I think that if other people are feeling down this would be a good place to look. So if you think about it like that keep posting and giving advice.

OK guys, I'm a let you in on a secret:

I have bipolar depression. It probably explains to...well...a lot of you why I have my (many) eccentric streaks :P

To put it briefly, a bipolar depressant will go from 'manic' states, where they appear happy and joyfull, and slump into very bad depressions. Consequently, it's why it took me over a year (and a very special, late friend) for me to actually accept the fact I had depression.

I'm not here to diagnose you, more to give you advice on what you could possibly do. I've only ever told a few people, close close friends. Never my parents or family, they aren't part of my life anymore. The reason I'm posting my admission on teh world wide intrawebnet is that I have to grow up about it, and face up to it.

What I try and do is when I enter one of my depressions, I try to make sure I don't share it with anyone. Not bottle it up, just don't let anyone experience it. Not even you guys online. It's just that, I don't want anyone to have a responsibility because I'm in a sulk.

So when that happens, I prioritise myself with little tasks. I cooked for awhile (as Matt suggested), but the satisfaction of smashing eggs got me a little..erm..carried away. Funnily enough it put me back in a good mood :P but I wouldn't recommend it!

I try not to listen to music, because I'll just skip to a sad song and end up getting deeper into a depression, similarly with films. It's hard to stop yourself doing so, but you'll perservere if you're prepared.

What I tend to do is isolate myself. I practise yoga which I've always enjoyed doing, no matter what state I'm in. A more simple way is to take a walk. Luckily for me I live in a really pretty corner of the world (at the moment), where I can walk up a hill and get lost in the woods. When you listen to nature, especially when you here raindrops on petals, it starts to put things into perspective. It may last a day or two, but I don't know, you could try these simple things and hopefully cheer you up a bit.

Do you have 1 or 2? I have bipolar 1. I usually use a combination of anti-depressants, lightboxes, and exercise for depressive episodes.

This is the way the world ends. Look at this [bleep]ing shit we're in man. Not with a bang, but with a whimper. And with a whimper, I'm splitting, Jack.

When I'm down I listen to 'happy' music to try and cheer me up, play with my dog who is so sweet, and play the drums. So in answer to your question I would listen to music, play with any pets you have, and practise any instruments you may play; especially if your instrument involves hitting things :o

For some reason though, I have a reputation of always being happy so I don't usually need to refer to my medicine.

I don't know what it is, but something keeps telling me you "own"?

"When you're happy it's like you're a bird; you can fly. The only trouble is, you need other birds to fly with"

I have recently taken up cooking to get me out of a bad mood. :D I find it quite satisfying. ^_^

I wish that I lived in a beautiful place like Bubsa. I take walks often when I feel down (I'm clinically depressed and on medication for it). But I feel like my walks would be so much better if I actually had something to look at. :P There aren't even any trees out here. Just flat grass and farm land. :(

A few things I'd recommend for anyone with "the blues", "in a funk", "blah", "depressed" or "irritable".

  • * Get outside in the sunshine, it makes your brain secret the happy juices.

    * Eat more fruits and veggies, drink more water, take a daily vitamin supplement.

    * Cut down on the junk food and caloric drinks.

    * Try keeping a journal. Writing down your feelings is a great release and often leads you to figuring out the root of your troubles. It's like therapy without talking.

    * Cut out the booze, it will compound the problem since it is a depressant.

    * Breathe. If you get angered easily, take a deep breath in and exhale it over a 10-second period...BEFORE you respond with anger.

    * Don't oversleep. Too much sleep can be worse than not enough.

    * Hang out with happy people...whatever they are doing to stay that way might rub off, or you might find a habit of theirs you can adopt for staying positive.

    * Do your favorite things. Read your favorite book, watch your favorite movie, go to your favorite place(s).

Just some tips, they've all worked for me at one time or another.

Bipolar 1. I'm not on any pills, I refuse to. Maybe it's immature of me, but I don't mind. I only do the exercises, which probably don't control myself as well as I could, but I don't want to be stuck on pills all my life. I'm lucky because in my depressive state I never seem to get angry, which is great if someone is around, because I'm not scared I might hurt them. I just kind of go into an existential philosophy mode. I've learnt to accept this body for what it is and I'll strive with what I have.

@knives: It really is pretty, it makes me feel like Jack Johnson :) But if it's just empty where you are, close your eyes. Have a smile on your face (you can't have tense muscles when you smile) and just listen to what's around you. Create your own little world from that.

Or, if you have the time, why not take up yoga? :D

flat grass and farmland make really good scenery at the right times. sunrises and sunsets i think look great, especially when there is one big tree in the middle of a field with nothing else around it. when its a clear sky day, you cant beat the blue sky. when its a little cloudy, but still mostly sunny, you could lay on your back and look at the clouds. :P

Try and get a girlfriend\boyfriend. That helps. A lot.

Not nessecarily (sp?), sometime it makes it worse because you start feeling like you have to do certain things and that can add the pressure, also sometimes you start caring more about making them happy then making your self happy. So while it can be helpful to have a bf/gf because you can talk to them and be close to them. It doesn't always help. Just thought I would put my two cents on the counter.

I call up people and get a paintball game going. Seriously, it relieves all tension and feelings of sadness. You can't help the feeling of supreme happiness when you hit a guy in the facemask from twenty feet away while going into a dive.

I really wouldn't call it an era. It was more of a definitive time period during which dinstinctive characteristics were expressed in similar ways.

Oh my... Yoga has always scared me. But, I've always wanted to try it as well.

And sunset and sunrise around here is beautiful. Nights are nice too. ^_^ I just wish I lived around more trees.

If you do want to get started, I just googled some free eBooks for you:

http://hinduism.about.com/cs/meditation ... y_yoga.htm

http://www.yoga-teacher-training.org/

NB: I don't follow the hinduist beliefs of yoga, I merely use it as a relaxation method and energy channeling.

Bubsa, I would never guess you are bipolar. I really think I am. I might get medical advice about it but on the other hand I don't want to.

I cover it up well. Really, there's no shame in going to see a doctor once you accept that you might have this depression. The doctor should never force you into treatment you don't want. You could just go for the diagnosis, but I'm sure the doc will come up with good exercises you can do. It's no way this pre-conception of disorder - outcast - pills. Not at all.

You've taken the first steps pal, and I'm proud of you.
